The Yoga Journey Continues

Last week was my first week of yoga and I am overall proud of how it went. On Wednesday, I did a combined lower back and hamstring video. I was able to do most of the poses with relative ease, but my form could get better. my goal is to strengthen my hamstrings so they aren’t bent in poses like downward dog. Also last week I did a session of Equestrian Yoga with Adriene and it was more difficult that I was expecting. Halfway through the session I had to pause and take a breather. Normally I give up when I get to this point in a workout, but I preserved and finished the whole video.

Today, I started my second week of yoga and I decided to use Instagram. I can already tell that I am not going to like it as much as YouTube. I used the image below to guide me through my session. I did like how it gave me the names of poses, but in the video I am told how to do the poses correctly and often given words of encouragement to keep going and finish.

Here is a picture of me doing the chair pose. It was like doing a wall sit without the stability of the wall. However, I really liked this pose and I think I will be doing it more regularly.

I also did the tree pose! Personally the tree pose is my favourite pose (mostly because it is easy to do). I was a little wobbly getting into the pose, but once I was in form, my balance was really good!

Between Instagram and YouTube, I like YouTube better. YouTube gives me the sense that someone is doing yoga with me and it encourages me to keep going and not give up halfway through. I’m finding yoga to be as much mental as it is physical. I just have to believe that I can do it, and then I can.

Hi Meghan. I don’t know a lot about yoga but it looks to me like you are doing a great job so far! I am really looking forward to following along your journey. Have you done any type of “pre-assessment”? I am just wondering what types of positive changes you might notice in your body after committing to yoga for a few months. It would be neat to somehow track things like your flexibility, sleep, energy levels etc.

Hey Amy, I didn’t really do a “pre-assessment” like you said, but I have noticed how difficult it is to hold the poses. So hopefully after a few months of committing it’ll get better!
