Queering the Curriculum

Ways in which we can begin to address the systems in which we teach our curriculum in is by making the appropriate changes. Teachers should be well educated on gender and sexual diversity, trans and queer’s challenges they face in life. We could bring discussions into the classroom to better educate those who may be struggling with their identity, because the classroom should be a safe place for students to talk about anything. Books, articles and YouTube videos can also be a huge help in the classroom to further your knowledge on topics such as these. It is also important to refer to a student by their gender identity rather than their sexual identity.

For me, integrating queerness into curriculum studies means inclusiveness for everyone, no matter their gender identity or where they come from. In my classroom I will educate all my students on the importance on acceptance of anyone, whether you are trans, queer, part of LGBTQ+. With following the guidelines and policies of course. Making my classroom a safe place where any student can come and talk about problems they may have is my goal. I would also make sure I am using the correct language in my lessons in order to not offend anyone and be as professional as I can be. Topics such as these are very important to teach to your students for acceptance of classmates.

The teacher should follow the rule of providing the duty of care for all students. As an educator I believe we should be able to provide education on all topics in order to give our students a proper and informational education.
