Land Acknowledgment

Our University is located on Treaty 4 land and on the territories of the nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakota, and the homeland of the Metis/michif nation.

I think it is important to acknowledge the land we are on because Indigenous peoples are not a thing of the past, and the names of these Nations should be known and held in high esteem by all the settlers living here.

By acknowledging land at every opportunity I hope to create respect and awareness in all settlers and to instill a drive to push against the systems of oppression which have caused settlers to not even know whose land they are living on.
