My name is Bella, and I would like to share some of my personal history with you so you can get to know me better as a potential teacher and educator.
I was born in Saskatoon but spent most of my life in Regina. I’ve lived across Saskatchewan, including Prince Albert and La Ronge, but ultimately decided to pursue education at Campion College, affiliated with the University of Regina. My areas of interest include philosophy, sociology, religious studies, and teaching.
Throughout my years at the University of Regina, I have learned the importance of bringing the whole student into the classroom, meaning that their stories, backgrounds, and lived experiences matter.
I am interested in teaching from an intersectional position, as I embody and belong to various communities. My experience enables me to connect with students on a more personable level with the hope that the needs of individual students are met and no one is left behind.
Culturally responsive teaching should be applied through an inclusive and diverse lens, such as through creative arts, English language learning, literature, science, mathematics, etc. I seek to incorporate art inquiry into all my lesson plans as students ought to have the opportunity to explore their minds and learn how to critically engage with what they are learning.
Besides teaching, I love film, art, travel, new experiences, crafts, food, and being outdoors. I have travelled to Guatemala, India, the UK, Malaysia, New York City, Chicago, Washington DC, and Canada. I plan to explore Canada further. However, I am interested in learning more about Arab culture/society and hope to travel to the Middle East!
