Differentiated Learning

This semester I have learned we all learn differently. We are all different, therefore, we all require differentiated learning. My ECS prof explained to us that they are four different types of learners. The puppy, the beach ball, the microscope, and the clipboard.

Puppy: Kind, usually talkative (not always), can read people well.

Beach Ball: Likes to be active while learning. Usually a little more laid back.

Clipboard: Organized, likes to plan.

Then…. we have the microscope, that’s where I fit. I am logical, I am competitive, I like to be the best at what I do, I am a perfectionist and I am an introverted extrovert.

Here’s a picture of my fellow microscopes.

Beyond this, we also have multiple intelligences. Although all of us in the above picture might be microscopes, we still learn differently. We took a quiz to figure out how we learn. My results showed that I am intrapersonal and logical. Below is a list of how people might learn.

MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES:

  1. Musical: Singing, instruments, rhymes, poetry, raps
  2. Logical/Mathematical: Patterns, organizers, puzzles, compare/contrast, maps/codes, graphs/charts
  3. Intrapersonal: Independent study, review and visualize, imagine and write, goal setting, personal journals
  4. Body-Kinesthetic: Physical exercise, perform, dance, hands-on creations, manipulate
  5. Spatial: Visual diagram, paint, models, detail, posters/maps
  6. Interpersonal: Role play, group work, interview, meetings, conferencing, teach and tell stories
  7. Linguistic: Write, read, report, explain, label, follow directions.
