My Relationship Philosophy
Ashley Wilmot
I believe that all my students should feel safe in the classroom.
Life can be scary. We are all trying to find our place in the world, wondering where it that we belong. It is important that students feel like they can be themselves when they are at school. I believe students will learn better when they are being themselves. Children spend many hours a day at school throughout their lives, and it should be a safe place for them to come and learn. I also want to set up a classroom environment where my students feel safe to talk to me about their lives, so I can be a trusted adult they can lean on. Along with safety, comes the idea of belonging. I believe they go hand in hand. If a child feels safe, they will also feel like they belong. All students should feel like they hold a special place in my classroom, and in my life.
I believe in connecting with my students and recognizing their strengths.
I want to know about my students their lives and who they are. I want to learn about where my students come from and where they want to go. I want them to know each one of them brings something special to my classroom. I believe that learning can occur better when I know who they are. I want to work every day to service my students to the best of my ability. I will be able to provide better support to my students when I know they are, understanding that each of them has a strength they bring to the classroom I believe in finding those strengths, nurturing them to be the best they can be.
I Believe in Community
When Children are not at school, they will often be spending time at home. I believe that connecting with their families is important. I want to build relationships with families so I can build trust with not only the student but families as well. They say it takes a village to raise a child and I believe this to be true. I believe in work together with parents and the community to promote healthy children because I believe we should all strive to be the healthiest version of ourselves.
I believe in Adapting to my Student’s Needs
Teaching the curriculum is vital. But, I must also focus on teaching the curriculum in ways that will connect with my students. They are the future and school is their foundation. If I cannot make their learning experience fun, then I am not setting them up for their future. I believe in finding new ways to adapt to my students by learning about them and creating relationships with each other. The more I know about them, the more I can adapt to their diverse needs.
