I love to set goals for myself and put them into action. I like making lists and checking them off, looking back to see what I have accomplished. Nothing beats the feeling of being able to check something off of my list that has been difficult for me to accomplish. Currently, it is the end of the semester and I cannot wait to check off all of my to do’s.
Anyways, speaking of goals, I want to set professional goals for myself for next semester and beyond. This semester was a learning experience and I am excited to use what I have learned to better myself. Therefore, I have several goals.
- Build Strong Relationships with my students. By knowing my students I will know how to teach them, therefore, I will be able to teach them better. I also want them to feel safe and loved. Therefore, relationship building is important to me.
- Walk all over the room. I found I stand at the front of the room, and do not move around a whole lot. My cooperating teacher pointed this out to me. She suggested trying out walking up and down the rows.
- Speak professionally. As a teacher in learning, I have used words like “gonna” a lot in the past. I will try my best to never utter that word in the classroom. They are other words such as “guys” that I also want to stay away from.
- Ask everyone! I often find my attention goes to the students with the loudest voices. These students like to talk. I need to focus on allowing them their time to talk, but also asking other students what their input is.
- Do not be so hard on myself. Sometimes this is hard. We all want to be the best at what we do. However, I need to realize I am still learning and I am not going to be perfect. I want to work on being happy and proud of my unique strengths and the successes I have in life.
