In case you didn’t read last weeks post, let me catch you up on where we are at
- I decided to start the Poppy beading that I was going to be doing because I figured I needed to start it now if I was going to finish it before Remembrance Day.
- It got off to a not so hot start, but this is where we left off.
Which honestly, I was feeling okay with when I finished this. I thought that it looked okay and that I didn’t think that it was that bad. Which honestly, is all I can ask for.
At this point, I decided to ask my friend and coworker Amber, what she thought, because she had been beading for a while and was an artist. She immediately was shocked by the size and told me that what I created was too big. Which honestly I just thought that it was a decent size so I was like whoops and then otherwise she said it was okay and gave me a few small pointers about what I was doing to help me out.
I didn’t take many pictures of the next part because I spent most of an afternoon powering through the last bit and it wasn’t until I was done with the poppy before I did the edging that I took the time to take a picture, but once I had done the first petal, the other three finished way quicker and it ended up being not too bad! Even my students were coming up to tell me that it looked great and that they were impressed that this was my first real project!
The next step was to do the edging which scared me a lot, but with guidance from some of my students and Amber, I was able to finish it and by the end, this is the final product of my Poppy!
About halfway through finishing the poppy, I realized that there was a few things that I didn’t like about this poppy and I quickly realized that I would once again be doing another poppy to make it better. So I guess that is next week!
This one went to my husband, because of course the kinda ugly one went to him and I decided to make a prettier one for myself, that is what husbands are for!
I love that you have hand made a poppy for remembrance day! These are so so beautiful that it makes me want to try it myself. I love that end paragraph, so funny and true!
Hi Briana!
The poppy is elegant and beyond respectful for November 11th (probably the Friday before if you are at school). I enjoyed that you are showing growth with ways to improve future creations. Excellent progress and fantastic beading!
I think that this poppy looks great! I agree with your students that it is an impressive outcome for your first creation. I hope that your next one comes out exactly like you want it to!
Hi Briana,
This is such a good idea for your blog post! I took a beading class in my last year of university and absolutely loved it! I found it very calming once I got the hang of it, and I wouldn’t mind getting back into it as there is so many beautiful things that individuals bead!
Great work, it looks fantastic!
