I decided to take another route this week, to see what I could learn about taking pictures with my cell phone instead.

I went to search up videos to help me use my phone camera, and then realized, I don’t even know what version or model of phone I own! So, I went into the settings to find out. And would you know, I found not only that I operate a Samsung S23 FE phone, but also, that there is an entire section of “user tips and guidelines” on how to use the cell phone camera right there in the settings/user manual. Back to that same idea of using a user manual to help you out. Except, because this is on my phone, and purely digital, it is a series of videos and very brief explanations. Cool, and completely discovered by chance.

Some of them are useful, some are little more than common sense, some are things I may never use (like making a movie). Others are quite interesting, like moving subjects from one image to another. Which I did in the series of images below!

This could have been executed a little better. But I also love that I managed to put my dog sitting in her favourite place on the deck, just out during the Northern lights a few weeks ago. It was challenging to hold onto the cut out version of dog while I scrolled through my camera roll to find a landscape scene to put her in! Totally did not know this was possible!

I think, if you planned this better it could make for a really useful cut and paste tool. I am also feeling as though I am quite late to the party in learning this little skill.

Then, because I searched photography tips for a Samsung s23 on YouTube, the first thing that popped up was a Master Class on Samsung Photography, and there was also Samsung Photography Academy. And while, the course is currently on sale, I told myself that I would do this based on free resources available on social media or other online resources.

This video is a YouTube short, that I think is my new go-to for many things in life! This was easy, and I briefly tried it while out for a walk.

I think the effect is interesting, made the tree seem more stretched, but could use some work in execution.

I thought this video was an interesting blend of Samsung skills and more fancy camera knowledge. In practice, much more difficult! Ha!

Overall, I like this avenue of photography, as a person is definitely more likely to have their phone on them and if the skills and knowledge are there there is opportunity to take some really unique pictures!
