Initial Reflection:

• My knowledge on assessment is from taking previous ECS courses in University.  I’ve learned about formative and summative assessments.  For my experience, I am more familiar with formative assessments during my pre-internship for the once a week period during Fall 2023.  During this period I gained more experience with formative assessment for the lessons I taught.  I’ve viewed and understand summative assessment, but I’ve never seen it in action, only examples.  Summative assessment to me is still new and I’m learning more about this way of assessment through criteria and rubric making.  My knowledge currently on what formative and summative assessments are – formative is more about the process of learning for the learner, and summative is the end product/evaluation (end of year or unit typically).

Goal Setting:

• My goal setting will be ongoing for my personal learning plan, but currently my goal is to try different ways of assessment.  I really liked the triangulation diagram that helps with forming assessment.  I want to add this triangulation into my goal setting, because I feel it will be useful for collecting my evidence for assessment.  Within the triangulation there is – observations, conversations, and products.  This triangulation is located in chapter. 5, within this triangulation I also really like the examples of how to utilize the triangulation diagram, by writing down the notes within the diagram of what is to be expected of students to be equitable.  My goal will be to use this method of assessment and specifically try out the journaling method during my three week block for pre-internship.  For the journal, I will have to focus on the assessment of the learning, use the journal as a product, and create a rubric for the journal.  During my three week block it is my goal to do a summative assessment and gain experience with summative.  Adding onto my goal, I will create a rubric for an assessment.  The more I try new assessment strategies – the more I will know which assessment styles work best for myself and others.  I will continue on trying new strategies of assessment during my three week block and for my full internship for Fall 2024.
