Classroom Reflection #5

Classroom Reflection #5

February 7, 2024

  1. Topics/activities that initiated my reflection – The topics that stood out to me this week I think will be great teacher resources for me to use in the future.  The first topic that stood out to me was the Feedback with Feed Forward, this sheet is useful I believe for knowing how to give feedback to students on improvements for their learning.  I’ve always known that giving feedback is important and this sheet is a useful guide to help with forming that feedback for students.  The next topic that stood out during class was through a video, this video had a tip for students that either needed assistance or was okay by writing down a happy face, confused face, or a help face on their sheet for the teacher to understand if they are okay with a question.  I like this tip, because sometimes asking questions can be hard for learners to ask for and maybe they need a system in place for the class.  The next topic that stood out was learning more about the performance stations, I like this way of teaching because it uses blooms taxonomy such as applying, drawing, and creating.  I like the use of stations for lessons, because then learners can apply their knowledge, and performance stations can be used for assessment of, for, and as for learning.  The last topic that stood out to me was learning about the Two Stars One Wish.  I like this topic, because it focuses on students comments and questions, with each student with a comment and rating scale.  During one of the videos for the Two Stars One Wish, the students would learn skills such as  listening to the speaker, learning peer feedback, asking questions and forming questions, and it teaches constructive criticism.  This form of feedback also is student lead with allowing students to choose their own articles.  The skills gained is learning to look at the audience during speaking, learning how to project voice, and focusing on improvements.  The students get more familiar with students assessment through peer assessment.
  2. Content connections: academic knowledge, “educational” experiences & perspectives on assessment material – In my Academic Knowledge experience, I remember taking a class during one of the semesters and performance stations were involved.  My knowledge on performance stations is learning about aesthetic of the table of the station and how it will fit into the topic/theme of the lesson.  During this class, we made stations for learners to use as a lesson and used sensory bins too, which are great for the younger grades.  Another Academic Knowledge experience is feedback, I’ve experienced self and peer assessment forms of learning, so this is something I understand from the learners perspective on how effective this tool is and how to utilize it within the classroom.
  3. Inform & influences for future teaching (need/ learn more about) – There are a lot of great teacher resources I plan to use for my future teachings from this class.  The first topic that influenced me is the Formative Assessment Planning Sheet.  This is a useful sheet to use for planning formative assessment for students, and it also tied into the Triangulation to figure out what corner to use for forming the formative assessment.  The next topic is Feedback with Feed Forward (sheet), this is another useful resource for knowing how to give proper feedback and how to do that.  I also really liked the Two Stars One Wish way of teaching, I like how this is student lead and is focuses on students working on improvements, listening skills, and being supportive of all learners.  Another tool I plan on using for future teachings is from one of the videos and how it uses smiley faces for students to use on their papers if they are okay, are confused, or need help with a question.  The last topic that will influence my future teachings is utilizing performance stations and I plan on using them for lessons as activities.
  4. SYMBOL: reminder of reflection – The symbol I choose this week is The Learning Pit, this is to help represent what its like for learners that persevere  through their learning journey.  This is connected to the Two Stars One Wish, to understand that learners work on their improvements over time and every learner goes through obstacles before they begin to understand.
