Teaching Manifesto

What I stand for…

Teachers play one of the biggest roles in shaping our future. Not only are we responsible for the academic development of younger generations, but we are in charge of whether or not our world is filled with genuine caring human beings. The term knowledge refers to much more than the GPA of a student but rather encompasses the overall consciousness of a person. As teachers we must focus on the development of morals and life skills. Making sure to educate the whole student; mind, body, and spirit.

As a teacher I will strive to develop my own teaching style that sets me apart from others and engages my students in a unique way that is tailored to multiple different learning styles, the goal is to be as adaptable as possible. Another huge part of my teaching philosophy will be interacting with my students to build a person to person relationship; where respect is reciprocated and students feel like they can come talk to me with any problems they might be facing so that we can work through it together. Students need to have adult figures in their lives that they trust, I believe teachers play a huge part in filling this role.

My classroom will be an inclusive environment where diversity is seen as an asset instead of liability. Students learn best when they are in a safe place and can be their true authentic self. As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community I know first hand the huge impact that being accepted can have on a student’s education.

Lastly, I will make sure that Indigenous education does not go unrecognized in our school system any longer. Students are incredibly impressionable, we must make sure that they learn the truth right off the bat. History is not always pretty but that is why we must teach it in order to prevent the repetition of traumatic events.
