“It is important for a teacher to see the beauty and intelligence of every student who walks through the door, and to keep trying to reach those who have already been told they aren`t worthy”.
When I think about what kind of teacher I want to be, the first thing that comes to my mind is a teacher who creates a positive, respectful, and caring community with a strong sense of belonging. I believe that students should feel safe and secure to be able to study, openly communicate, share ideas, and learn from one another. I want to help them approach this learning environment so they can focus on discovering multiple disciplines and the world around them.
I believe that teacher should build meaningful relationships on a foundation of mutual respect and trust. I want to be a teacher who shows her respect to students, honors their cultural diversity, creates positive experiences, and teaches them to accept diversity as a source of pride. I believe that all learners deserve to be treated with high expectations; every student has his strengths and talents, and a teacher should find it and help to develop. Every students should be reached, and no one should be left behind.
I believe, it is important for each teacher to engage students in learning and not just lecture them. Teachers cannot know everything, and, thus, I believe, teachers and students should constantly learn from each other. Teachers should build connections with each student and show that each relationship is important to them. If students feel that someone believes in them, they start to believe in themselves as well. As teachers, we have a unique opportunity to create a passion for learning, make them curious, and encourage them to begin a journey of discovery. Also, I believe that it is important to show students that there is no harm in making mistakes as long as we learn from them. I believe that our goal is to make students life learners; our time is limited but we should try to give them knowledge and techniques which they will be able to use throughout their lives. In that way, we can empower every student for long-term success. From an overall perspective, the seeds of knowledge that we plant in our students, will help to make our community a better place to live in, design a future we can be proud of.
