ECS 101 Autobiography

As I was growing up, choosing a career path was a very stressful and hard thing to do for me, as I grew older things and decisions changed in my life. I started off by having the thought of being a nurse and have, had that thought in my brain since I was six years old and still had that thought as I went into my first semester at the university, from all the different pros and cons helped me shape who I am today and why I made to stick to the decision of becoming an educator. My family, my friends, my previous schools,  my teachers, and my job all put an impact on my decision on who I am going to become.

I grew up in the city but my family is a very outdoors family, we always go camping, hiking, exploring, and fishing. As I was growing up athleticism was also added to my life I started off dancing when I was four and continued on dancing till I was about 14 years old and decided to switch it up a bit and joined cheerleading which I am still in. In high school, I always participated in track and field and volunteered for the basketball and volleyball games. In grades 11 and 12 I decided to take outdoor pursuits, which is a class that field trips are the grade and we went all around Saskatchewan for skiing, snowboarding, hiking, and camping. In grade 12 the final for that class was going on a week canoeing trip which included 86km of canoeing 40km of hiking camping on 6 different islands and portaging. That trip made me take lots of memories home including all the fun and the friendships that were made and or brought closer together which I will always remember, which both us students and our leaders learned from which is one of the important things while teaching because we all learn new thing and learn better from and with each other.

For my past 12 years as a student, I have gone through three elementary schools, one of the schools was the north end of the city which is a completely different viewing of learning from all the kids, I went to that school for grade 5 and 6 and the one thing that was really interesting to me was how much work and effort the teachers had to put in to keep some of the kids always entertained and busy and it was a completely different environment then it is in the south end of the city. From grade 9-12 I have been at Campbell Collegiate high school which was a great high school and throughout those four years, I was really focused and interested in how those teachers kept us engaged and always taught us new ways to learn and take more time with kids who needed more help,  which was really brought to my attention because I truly believe that is very important as an educator. As I was moved around through a  couple of schools in my elementary years they were all different kinds of kids I met with all different kinds of backgrounds and cultures which I thought was awesome as a kid having friends from different countries around the world. That is one of my strongest beliefs is everyone should be accepted for who they are, with all different backgrounds. As I grew through all my past 12 years of school, I have been able to provide some values for my teaching career.

I have been through many opinions with my family about my career choice, I started off as wanting to be a nurse and that is all I wanted to be because my mom’s side of the family was all into the medical field including my mom herself, I just wanted to follow my mom’s footsteps and be a nurse because I was really interested in working with patients and helping with there needs, but as I got my first job which was babysitting I was starting to think about being an educator since I really enjoyed spending time with kids, and thats all that was stuck with me from grade 6 to the start of grade 12 because that is when I got a job at a daycare which I currently still have that I love and really enjoy I am the pre school educator at this daycare and I really get some of the feelings of being a teacher with my planning and spending time and teaching the children is something I really enjoyed and still enjoy, so as I went forward working at the daycare I really wanted to get that full experience so I took my level 1 ECE course. As I graduated I wanted to try out nursing first and see how it went, so my first semester at the university I took some nursing classes and I really did not enjoy it, I was too interested in being an educator so after I completed my first semester I transferred to the Education program which I love! My parents have been supporting me through my choices and giving me their personal thoughts, they did rather me go into nursing because it was something they were wanting me to do but they said they will support me no matter what, now that I am wanting to be a teacher I am very happy and so are my parents and I am very thankful for my family for being there for me through my decisions and I am happy to be where I am.
