The Contract

This lesson was done by my co-op teacher in my field placement and it you of my favourites that I have seen. It is to simulate the conditions of the First Nations people signing the treaties. You write a contract in a different language that the students do not understand, and leave it so the only understand some parts that make it look good, and that the would want to sign it. Then you would pressure your class into signing this contract that they thought ha d good thing on but it was actually filled with things that were very unfair to them. This allows them to feel what it would be like to be in the shoes of the First Nations people at the time, which really helps the kids learn and understand why these things happened.
