Week 1: Settling on a Topic

If there’s one thing I know to be true about educators, it’s that we love to learn. I’m sure that everyone taking on this project is excited and has many great ideas! I had a lot of ideas myself that I have been thinking about over the past week.

  • Quilting: as a beginner quilter, this project could help me continue to improve and learn some tips and tricks to make things work more smoothly.
  • Dog Training: my husband and I adopted a sweet little poodle a few months ago, and I’ve already been researching how I can continue to work on training her.
  • Cello: this has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. I purchased a cello literally hours after I finished my last piano exam with the Royal Conservatory. I’ve taken a few lessons but I have struggled to stay on top of it.
  • Interior Design: we have a lot of unused space in our finished basement that I would like to do something with… I just have no idea where to start!

Two classical instruments - the cello and the grand piano - on a stage waiting for their musicians before a recitalAfter doing some research and weighing my options, I decided to give the cello another chance because…

  • I feel that the issues that have been holding me back from regular practice can be helped by accessing online support.
  • I have also already had enough lessons that I’m comfortable with the basics.

… so what’s the plan?

I’m going to try a different online source each week to help me get past the issues that halted me previously, such as sore wrists. I would also like to put myself out there a bit more on social media to see if I can connect with others, or even to motivate myself to keep working at it.

This week’s media:

Questions:

  • How are you going to go about documenting your progress? YouTube? Can you put videos directly into blog posts? I’d like to get an initial video up as soon as possible!

Thanks for Reading!

OK, I am super pumped about your project. I have to say that I also want to learn to quilt, Interior Design would be my choice of career in another life and I have 2 dogs. So whatever you chose I’d be watching your progress. However, I am a huge cello fan. I love the deep haunting sound of the cello and the music is so beautiful. I am excited for you and your upcoming learning journey!!

Deep and haunting is such a beautiful description of the sound of the cello!! Also, I would really encourage you to give quilting a try 🙂 I made one last year and it was so relaxing 🙂

Did I miss it?!? What did you settle on? All of these look like amazing ideas. Quilting seems like a win for the cold winter months- although the wrist pain could be an issue. Dog training seems so incredibly fun- it took our pup the longest to learn to lie down, although we did voice and sign language (actions more so,) I’m not sure if that complicated the process lol. And cello- wow!

Good luck for whatever you choose!

I am going with the cello! I figure that I must be doing something wrong if I’m having wrist pain when I play, so I’m going to try to figure that out 🙂
