This week, I decided to follow the advice from the Cellomoji podcast and create a practice space:
I included some warm-up scales, my Suzuki cello books, some sheet music I purchased to work on, my cello, my practice cello/bow, and a notebook to track my practice in. I also put a mirror in this space to watch my playing and fix any small errors.
I think that having a dedicated space for practice will help me stay committed to practicing more… I have my cello in this room ready to go, so I don’t have to worry about lugging the case up the stairs and getting everything set up.
Creating this space worked so well that I over-did my practice and ended up with a sore bow-wrist… my next challenge.
I’m going to get back to where I started and work on keeping that wrist loose… I’ll also explore other sources for help with that bowing hand!
Here is a video of my progress this week!
I love that creating a space worked well for you. I’m not sure that I have a space of my own but I need to adapt the space I am using. That starts with cleaning up the toys that cover my basement. Glad to see that you are continuing to progress!

I suppose I never thought about it, but the mirror idea for practicing music and checking your technique is a great idea. We always put mirrors in our gyms and dance studios to monitor form, but rarely consider how beneficial it is for instrument practice. I am going to steal your idea for my daughter. You sound great, by the way. Keep it up!
I work and concentrate better with a dedicated space as well. Sometimes we need to get creative in our homes to find that space.
You sound amazing. Way to go!
