Exploring the Great AI

“… regardless of what standards and materials provided, teachers must still spend time planning and preparing content that they deliver. AI is here to help make all of this more manageable.” (Artificial Intelligence Playbook, 37)

There is no doubt that teaching is a difficult vocation that seems to get more and more challenging as the years go on. We are seeing more diverse student needs and larger class sizes than ever before. With the emergence of Artificial Intelligence, it seemed like educators everywhere feared that it would be used by students to cheat… but it seems to be human nature to be skeptical of things that are new and different. Usually if things are too good to be true, then we are right to be skeptical of them.

This week, I’m going to try some new Artificial Intelligence tools and see how they can be helpful to educators to make the massive task of teaching a little more manageable.

To gauge the top tool, I’m going to try entering the same prompts and see how it will help me create a lesson plan for Grade 8 Science.

Tool #1: EducationCopilot.com

  • Claims: “Generate Lesson Plans & Other Educational Materials in Seconds – Streamline your planning and prep with AI generated templates for lesson plans, writing prompts, educational handouts, student reports, project outlines and lots more.”

(US pricing)

  • Findings: This tool didn’t give me anything that I couldn’t find in my curriculum or online. I found that it put together very sparse unit plans with no real materials included in it.
  • Would I use this: No I would not! See my video at the end for what this program generated.

Tool #2: Eduaide.ai

  • Claims: “Maximize your impact with Eduaide – an AI-powered workspace designed for teachers to simplify lesson planning, resource creation, and feedback… Unlike other platforms, we’re actually built from the ground up by teachers for teachers”

$4.16/month for a 1-year subscription $5.99/month for monthly subscription $0.00 for 15 free generations/month (US pricing)

  • Findings: In my opinion, it gave me a solid starting point. I know that I need to adapt my input to get more specific results. I liked that I could copy and paste ideas from the overall unit plan to help with slideshow ideas and worksheets as a place to begin!
  • Would I use this: Yes… I like that you can generate 15 things/month. You will also see in my video that there are a tonne of options for generations!

Tool #3: Socrat.ai

  • Claims: “Socrat.ai combines cutting-edge generative AI technology and a user-friendly interface to create modern teaching and learning solutions. We combine frontier AI models with classroom-centered design to adhere to strict guidelines in order to ensure efficiency, safety, and maximized learning. We are constantly adding new features and analyzing the effectiveness of our tools to remain on the forefront of educational technology.”

(US pricing)

  • Findings: This was a really cool one! I’m glad I tried it. The biggest problem is the pricing. Most classes are more than 5 students, and it would be really nice to have more than one active assignment at a time. Very sad about the pricing on this because it was really cool!
  • Would I use this: … if it wasn’t $25/month, heck yes!

Video Review of EducationCopilot, Eduaide, & Socrat:

Thanks for following along with me! I’m curious, what are your go-to AI tools and why?

Wow thank you for sharing your video on them all. I have never tried any of those, I actually use Chat gpt in a similar way but I prompt it myself to create all those items. I can appreciate how companies have taken advantage of taking the guess work out of coming up with our own prompts for making these lessons and you can type in some of the curriculum and boom out it shoots some lessons, or in Co-pilot’s case, some lessons with no resources. Very interesting indeed, thanks for sharing! Ill be sharing these(or not sharing some, thanks to your review) with colleagues.
