Week 10: Let’s get FANCY (or try to)

It’s almost time to wrap things up…

… and I am still stuck on how different the sound quality was when I recorded my duet on the piano and the cello last week. I’ve been debating purchasing a microphone for a while to use for Teams meetings and recording PD at work, so I figured I would start small and buy something with good reviews that I can use wirelessly.

This wireless microphone only set me back $15 and is something that I can plug into my phone to use while taking a variety of different videos (I like to record with my phone because it has the best camera).

I tested it out at work on a Teams call, and it continued to pick up my voice from across the building while connected to my computer. If nothing else, this will be something great to have for when teachers join in on PD remotely, so they can still hear everything that’s going on!

I couldn’t wait to get everything set up at home and record some quality audio with my cello!

Here is how it went…

Does anyone out there have advice for how to work with this microphone when it comes to instruments?

I’m thinking that I will make do with not using the microphone for the cello, but will continue to use it to record my voice in videos!

I had to laugh at myself while watching your video because, at first, I thought, Wow, she sounds great—I’m not sure what she means! But the moment you removed the mic, I was shocked at the difference in sound quality. Have you tried testing it in a different space, like outside the room with the door partially closed? Or maybe in a larger room to see how the acoustics change? Honestly, I have no idea if that would make a difference, so take this advice with a grain of salt! But seriously, you sound fantastic—keep experimenting and having fun with it!
