At the Finish Line!

I Did It!

I really think I’ve come a long way when it comes to my confidence and ability with the cello.

Here is a video comparing myself playing the French Folk Song in January compared to April… I can see how much more comfortable I feel with the cello now in comparison, and how much less I have to look at my fingers to check my notes!

I also worked on another duet with myself… Gymnopedie No. 1 (purchased from SheetMusic Direct)

I would have liked the ending with the cello to be a bit smoother, but there was a lot of jumping around between strings as well as some flats, which are new to me!

At the end of the day, progress is progress and I’m happy I could get through it.

What did I learn?

Well, I learned that if you take the time to dig around you can find really great resources out there. The most important thing is that you take the time to dig and put in the effort. I wonder if we are so used to having everything right there at our fingertips and become less inclined to try new things and dig in when learning something new.

I also learned that my hands aren’t too small to play a full-sized cello, and that there are many things I can do to avoid the pain in my wrists.

Thanks for following along with this journey!!

  1. You did it, Jenni! It was a fantastic idea to splice your January and April playing. I may have quit playing the violin in grade 7, but I can hear a noticeable improvement in your playing. The notes sound so much richer now. And I love when you duet with yourself – it was such a cool concept you shared a few posts ago, and it worked beautifully again! The power of technology. I hope you continue to play and enjoy music. Congrats!
