From Sweet Tooth to Sweet Success: My Baking Journey Begins! šŖš
If thereās one thing about me that has never changed, itās my love for desserts. Give me pastries, cupcakes, dry cakesāyou name it, Iāll try it! A true foodie at heart, Iāve always had a sweet tooth that craves the perfect bite of indulgence.
But since moving to Regina, Canada, Iāve struggled to find the taste I missāthat comforting, nostalgic flavor that instantly transports me back home. So, I decided to take matters into my own handsāliterally!
Baking was never completely unfamiliar to me. Iāve had my small victoriesāa batch of delicious cookies here, a perfectly moist dry cake thereābut letās be honest, there were plenty of āOops, what did I just make?ā moments too! š The perfect balance of flavors, textures, and that signature softness still felt like a mystery waiting to be solved.
The First (Not-So-Perfect) Cake šš°
One of my earliest attempts at making a fruit cake ended in a bit of a disaster. Excitedly, I added fresh strawberries on top, thinking they would elevate the taste. Instead, they made the cake soggy and unappealing. While my family still enjoyed tasting it, letās just say it wasnāt something Iād proudly present on a birthday table. Some experiments work, some donātābut thatās all part of the process!
There are times when the taste is great, but the texture just doesnāt work out. My family had no complaints, thoughāthey were happy to be my taste-testers. My two boys (12 and 6) love giving their honest feedbackāwhether it’s a big thumbs-up, a scrunched nose, or a request for āmore chocolate chips next timeā. My husband, always the willing critic, joins in too.
My Baking Goals šÆ
As I take on this learning project, I want to truly master the art of bakingānot just for myself but to create beautiful, homemade treats for special occasions. My biggest goal by the end of this journey is to bake with confidence and consistency, making cakes and pastries that are:
āļø Delicious ā No more hit-or-miss recipes!
āļø Visually appealing ā So I can proudly gift them or make birthday cakes.
āļø Healthier & homemade ā So my family can enjoy treats with better ingredients.
This blog will be my baking diaryāfrom successes to failures, from simple recipes to ambitious ones. If you’re a baking enthusiast, a fellow sweet-tooth, or just someone who loves watching others figure things out in the kitchen, follow along as I take on this journeyāone recipe at a time! š°āØ
