From Sweet Tooth to Sweet Success: My Baking Journey Begins! šŸŖšŸŽ‚

If there’s one thing about me that has never changed, it’s my love for desserts. Give me pastries, cupcakes, dry cakes—you name it, I’ll try it! A true foodie at heart, I’ve always had a sweet tooth that craves the perfect bite of indulgence.

But since moving to Regina, Canada, I’ve struggled to find the taste I miss—that comforting, nostalgic flavor that instantly transports me back home. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands—literally!

Baking was never completely unfamiliar to me. I’ve had my small victories—a batch of delicious cookies here, a perfectly moist dry cake there—but let’s be honest, there were plenty of ā€œOops, what did I just make?ā€ moments too! šŸ˜… The perfect balance of flavors, textures, and that signature softness still felt like a mystery waiting to be solved.

The First (Not-So-Perfect) Cake šŸ“šŸ°

One of my earliest attempts at making a fruit cake ended in a bit of a disaster. Excitedly, I added fresh strawberries on top, thinking they would elevate the taste. Instead, they made the cake soggy and unappealing. While my family still enjoyed tasting it, let’s just say it wasn’t something I’d proudly present on a birthday table. Some experiments work, some don’t—but that’s all part of the process!

There are times when the taste is great, but the texture just doesn’t work out. My family had no complaints, though—they were happy to be my taste-testers. My two boys (12 and 6) love giving their honest feedback—whether it’s a big thumbs-up, a scrunched nose, or a request for ā€œmore chocolate chips next timeā€. My husband, always the willing critic, joins in too.

Baking for my family makes this journey even more rewarding!

My Baking Goals šŸŽÆ

As I take on this learning project, I want to truly master the art of baking—not just for myself but to create beautiful, homemade treats for special occasions. My biggest goal by the end of this journey is to bake with confidence and consistency, making cakes and pastries that are:

āœ”ļø Visually appealing – So I can proudly gift them or make birthday cakes.
āœ”ļø Healthier & homemade – So my family can enjoy treats with better ingredients.
