Getting Started with Twitter

This week, I had the opportunity to participate in a Sask. Ed Chat on Twitter. This was a new experience for me, and it was super interesting!

I’ve never had much experience using Twitter. If I am being honest, I never really quite understood how to use it. Tweet? Re-tweet? Hashtag? It was all so confusing to me, so I never bothered to take the time to learn about the platform.

If you’ve ever felt like this, I found a YouTube video that may ease some of your confusion. This is a quick 11 minute video that explains the basics of Twitter. It is a great guide for beginners.

I was very excited that we were going to be able to learn how to use Twitter throughout this course. I really appreciate the guidance that we were given for how to set up our accounts, and basic information about making posts. This was much more helpful than just figuring it out on my own.

Now, I can see all of the networking and collaborative benefits that Twitter can offer. I began following individuals from our EDTC class and other students in the Faculty of Education. I am still working on what I would like to post/share, but so far, I have loved reading tweets and exploring the resources that are being shared.

#Sask Ed Chat

Participating in the Sask Ed Chat was a very interesting experience. It was super interesting to get to interact with educators from all over Saskatchewan through this online discussion. The information that was shared was very helpful and I was able to save a lot of resources.

I really appreciated that many of the discussion questions focused on advice for new teachers. It was also a very helpful way to find other educators to follow and interact with.

All in all, I loved the experience and I will definitely be participating in another Sask Ed Chat!

Finally….

Be sure to check out my twitter page @presleyallen9. Let me know in the comments if there are any other social media platforms that I should check out!

  1. Thank you for the video! Twitter is very tough to use at the start. I experienced that just as you have when I was in EDTC 300. There are so many useful resources on it however, that it almost feels like a crime to not utilize it. Saskedchat is just one of those. It is fantastic for interacting with teachers local to our province and getting so many valuable and unique perspectives. Other social media platforms that I find useful are Facebook and Instagram. I interact with many fellow teachers on those sites and have learned so much in the process.
