I reside in Treaty 6, Saskatoon, SK, having immigrated from India with my family – husband and two children. Our neighborhood features a high school, church, soccer and football fields, a Sikh Temple, and a nostalgic trail. Strolling here evokes memories of my school days and carefree childhood. As I go to attend the several meets in my kids school or gatherings, these start with a verbal acknowledgment to Treaty 6 which is the homeland of the Metis nation as a sign of respect, gratitude and respect for the land we use and take the pledge to end systemic racism, commit to advancing reconciliation.
This serves as a reminder to give back to the community that has embraced us. When I return to teaching, I’ll strive to improve the education system and eliminate societal barriers hindering Canada’s progress. Privilege often goes unnoticed and breeds prejudice and discrimination. I aim to address challenges related to social circles, mental health, and professionalism, partnering with the community to promote equality and fairness. My gift to community is my own self to serve by “EDUCATING THE RIGHT WAY“
