Hi there!
My name is Ryan Poelzer. I am in my eighth year of teaching, with this being my sixth year at my current school teaching Phys Ed. I love my job and personally think it is the best job in my division.
Over the summer my partner and I went on several adventures! The image shown here was from the beginning of our two week long canoe trip north of La Ronge, Sk! We departed from Missinipe on June 30th, spending two days canoeing to Stanley Mission and visiting the famous Nistowiak Falls, and then spent the remaining ten days paddling up the Drinking Water river, and back down several lakes and (extremely) small rivers to reach the Churchill River and eventually, Missinipe. We very loosely followed a known route, but much of the information we relied on was over ten years old. This led to us having to portage through many previously burnt portages, over numerous beaver dams, down a 2km set of shallow rapids that had an elevation decrease of over 20 meters, through one-track muskeg where the river was just wide enough for the canoe, and even up two waterfalls! To say this was a trip of a lifetime is an understatement!
Technology in education is not something I am overly familiar with. In my days as a substitute teacher and subject itinerant I have naturally had to utilize technology for projection and assignments. I was teaching during the COVID times when all learning suddenly shifted to online. Even then I would say my technology use was rudimentary at best. I have blogged once before, which was in my Grade 9 Computer Science class using Blogger.com. I have not touched them since, and to be fully honest, the whole creation of the blog and all the options has me feeling rather overwhelmed. But hey, sink or swim; just got to keep working at it and I am sure I’ll figure some things out.
