“Small Chains, Big Progress: My Crochet Journey Continues”

Activities Completed This Week
During the past two weeks, I have made great progress on my crochet learning journey. In the first week, I gathered all my materials — yarn, a crochet hook, and scissors — and practiced holding them properly. At first, it was awkward to control both the hook and yarn, but with practice it started to feel more natural.

This week, I took the next step and learned how to make a chain stitch, which is the basic foundation for almost every crochet project. I followed a YouTube video tutorial and practiced along with it. After several tries, I was finally able to make a neat row of chains. The stitches were not perfect, but I felt very proud of the progress I made. It gave me confidence that I can move forward and start learning more complex stitches next week.

What I liked: The tutorial explained every step slowly and clearly, showing close-up views of how to hold the yarn and move the hook. It was easy to pause, replay, and follow along at my own speed.
What I didn’t like: Sometimes it was hard to see the hand movements clearly when the instructor moved too fast, so I had to replay the video many times to understand the technique.

I found YouTube tutorials very helpful because they allow me to actually see how the stitches are done. I also browsed beginner crochet blogs and Pinterest ideas to get inspiration for simple first projects like scarves and dishcloths.

Project in Action
Here is an image of my first crochet chain that I made this week:

This small piece may seem simple, but it represents a big step for me. It’s exciting to see the yarn slowly turn into something made by my own hands. Each time I practice, my stitches look smoother, and my hands feel more comfortable with the hook.

Next Steps
For next week, I plan to start learning the single crochet stitch, which will allow me to create my first real fabric. I will continue watching beginner tutorials and practicing regularly to improve my technique and consistency.

My First Crochet Chain

This week I made an exciting step in my crochet journey—I created my first chain! I followed a video on YouTube that explained the process slowly, and I practiced along with it. At first, it was hard to hold the yarn and hook the right way, but after a few attempts I was able to make a small row of chains.

Here is the picture of my work:

The stitches are not all even, but I feel really proud because this is the foundation of almost every crochet project. Learning to control the tension of the yarn was a challenge, but I noticed that with more practice my chains started to look smoother and more consistent. Making this chain gave me a sense of achievement—it feels like the first building block toward bigger projects.

I’m excited to keep moving forward. Next week, I will start learning the single crochet stitch, which will turn these simple chains into real fabric. I know it will take patience and practice, but I am motivated to keep going and see what I can create step by step.

“Keeping My Grandmother’s Legacy Alive: Learning Crochet”

My Major Project: Learning to Crochet
For my major project, I have chosen to learn crocheting with a crochet hook. I’ve always admired handmade blankets and scarves, and I want to develop the skills to make them myself. Crocheting feels calming and useful, and it also connects me to my grandmother, who was very skilled at this craft. I remember watching her create beautiful pieces as a child, but I never learned from her before she passed away. I regret missing that chance, so this project is also a way to honor her memory and keep her skill alive.

Why I Chose Crocheting and My First Steps
Crocheting appeals to me because it is creative, relaxing, and requires only a simple hook and yarn. My goals are to learn the basic stitches, practice with small swatches, and finish at least one project like a scarf or blanket. This week I gathered my materials—yarn, a crochet hook, and scissors—and practiced holding them properly. It felt awkward at first, but with practice it’s getting easier. I’m excited to start learning my first stitch next week and look forward to growing my skills week by week.
