The first step that we need to take to begin to address many issues such as homophobic, transphobic, biphobic and oppressive towards queer and trans people is by education. It has been clear to see that the reason that the 2SLGBTQ+ community faces a lot of hate and discrimination is because people are so unfamiliar and lack a lot of basic knowledge when it comes to that topic. Starting with a good education, explaining, and even having individuals come in from the community to answer any questions that the children might have, is an amazing step to insure that we as educators are creating a safe and welcoming environment for all. Many of those aggressive behaviour come from lack of knowledge and fear. So by providing constant and right resources that are needed children will start to become more familiar with the 2SLGBTQ+ community and begin to see that at the end of the day they are humans just like the rest of trying to find their place in the world.
