How does Kumashiro define ‘commonsense?’ Why is it so important to pay attention to the ‘commonsense’? What commonsense understandings of curriculum and pedagogy do you bring with you into this course?

Kumashiro defines common sense as ideologies which a society or a culture deems as acceptable or common-place. I think that I have many understandings of common sense when it comes to curriculum. It is my understanding that curriculum is made by the government with input from the people, it can be easily accessed by everyone, and it is enforced in schools. I have less common sense understandings with pedagogy. It is my understanding that pedagogy should be about how to serve student’s needs. Pedagogy should be based on what a teacher has learned in their own experiences, good and bad. There should be a variety of assessment types to match as many students needs as possible.
