Forget the Flashcards!! Learn French With Memrise !!

Lately, I have been trying to find resources to help with my French learning journey. I wanted to find a creative learning resource  that would be both interactive and fun. I have found that app and it’s called Memrise. Memrise not your typical flashcard app that feel like you’re being bombarded with vocabulary. Oh no! this it’s a gamified app with point and streak that help you learn French while having fun and also have you wanting more. Memrise takes you through videos, quizzes, and little challenges while you’re having fun learning. You start with basic words and sentences such as “ça va, et toi”? that you’ll actually use in your everyday French speaking. I particular like how the lesson are short and simple. You’re also able to learn offline with it’s offline feature, making it easy to learn anywhere at anytime. Memrise tracks your progress and give you lessons based on your level of learning and problem areas. So, if you are a visual learner and want to learn French this app is perfect.

How it works

You will hear real French speakers (and not robots) like you would hear on those other apps. Plus, you can actually see the words in context and then click on the flashcard of choice. The app uses something called spaced repetition that you can use when you are unsure of the pronunciation. In cases where you are unsure of a certain word or phrase you have the option to click the “I don’t know” icon. You not only get translating in English, but you can also translate what the French speakers are saying in French. That way you not only learn to speak the language but you’re also learning to identify and spell French words.

One of the coolest features is the video clips of native French speakers from all over the world that make the learning feel authentic. You get to see their faces, hear their accents, and feel the real vibe of the language. It’s like having a bunch of friendly French locals cheering you on as you learn.

Hi Sashagay. I like your description of how the app Memrise can be useful in learning French. It seems like an app that would help make learning French easier. I also liked how you pointed out that this app is good for people who are visual learners because everyone has different ways of learning and that piece of information could be useful for some. One thing that you pointed out that I think would be the most helpful is you can hear real French speakers. It really sounds like a useful tool to help learn French. I hope it helps you in your learning journey.

    Hi Sashagay!
Memrise seems like an awesome resource to help you learn French!
I like that you pointed out this source can be very useful for visual learners as I think it’s very important to include different learning styles in things such as learning language.
Also, it’s awesome that the voices are not AI, which lets you learn more accurately.
