Week 5: Stress, Stretching and Scrolling

Okay, real talk—this week  was absolute chaos.

My husband was away for work, we had three (yes, THREE) dance recitals, a birthday party, and I was scrambling to finish a bunch of assignments. To be honest, I’m super late posting this update, and for a while I wasn’t even sure what I wanted to write about. I had originally planned to focus on nutrition this week, but between the lack of sleep and the running-around-like-a-maniac energy, that kind of flew out the window.

At one point I thought, “Okay, I’ll just push through and do it anyway,” but then I took a step back and realized what I actually needed to focus on was not burning out completely. I’ve been doing so well with keeping up my workouts, and I didn’t want to lose that momentum just because life got wild. So instead of stressing about macros and meal plans, I shifted gears and started looking for small ways to take care of myself—mentally and physically.

I even tried a couple of things to help with the burnout—some short guided meditations on Insight Timer, a few “stress relief” stretch routines on FitOn, and a calming yoga video I found on YouTube called “Fill Your Cup Yoga” (shown below). They were fine, and while they didn’t totally fix the exhaustion I was feeling, I will say the yoga video actually helped me feel a bit more grounded. It gave me a few quiet minutes to breathe and slow down, which honestly felt like a small win in a really hectic week.

Still, none of it became a habit (yet), and I found myself going back to what felt more familiar—like searching for nutrition tips or quick energy-boosting food ideas on Pinterest and TikTok. That’s where I discovered protein coffee (which I’m kind of obsessed with now), and a few quick snack ideas I want to try next week when things settle down.

And even though this week was all over the place, one thing I am really proud of is that I still made time for my workouts. They didn’t always happen at the perfect time of day, and a couple were shorter than planned, but I showed up. Every time I left the gym or finished a quick home workout, I felt so much better—less overwhelmed, more grounded, and like I was still doing something for me in the middle of all the chaos. That alone helped me manage my stress more than I expected.

So yeah, this week didn’t go exactly as planned—but I’m counting it as a win. I stayed consistent, I adjusted when I needed to, and I reminded myself that progress doesn’t have to look perfect—it just has to keep going.
