Reflection on Debate-5 (The Role…. of Technology in Promoting an Equitable Society)

Technology is essential to creating an equitable society since it provides equal access to resources, education, and information for all. Increasing everyone’s access to knowledge and education, regardless of the place where they live, helps close the gaps that exist between different social and economic groups. For example, children in remote locations have access to the same educational resources and online courses as those who are richer.  Thanks to the Internet! People can become more knowledgeable and skillful through democratizing education, which can improve their prospects of finding work and enhancing their standard of living.https://images.app.goo.gl/vnm2uP9CzYQor8aa8

The above video shown that how we build a more equitable society. However, technology makes people closer together and communicates better, fostering interaction and collaboration among people from all backgrounds.  By sharing experiences, opinions, and ideas, people can build understanding and a sense of community among numerous communities, by using social media platforms and communication technologies. This can lessen preconceptions and increase unity in society by emphasizing similarities rather than differences. Moreover, technology also improves employment opportunities. Connecting recruiters and businesses through digital networks and online employment platforms offers a wider range of opportunities and increases inclusivity in the labor market. Through online training classes and programs, people can also acquire new abilities that will help them compete in the labor market and pursue occupations that were previously inaccessible.

On Negative Side:-  No doubt, that technology create a more equal society, but it also introduces several negative aspects that can worsen existing inequalities. There is much concern over the unequal distribution of technology and internet access among different socioeconomic classes, defined as the “digital discrepancy.” The cost of contemporary technology, fast internet, and the necessary digital literacy training is unaffordable for many people who live in low-income and rural areas. The disparity in employment and educational opportunities could hinder the advancement of individuals with disabilities.

Rapid technological improvements might result in job loss, particularly for those in jobs with fewer skills. These workers often have fewer chances to learn new skills for different jobs. The environment can also be harmed by technology. For example, electronic garbage (like old computers and phones) and the energy used by multiple industries cause air and water pollution. Poorer communities, who often live in areas with more pollution and climate issues, are more affected by these problems.  While technology has many advantages, these problems demonstrate that to ensure that technology serves everyone equally, we also need to address these issues.

In summary, technology significantly contributes to equality by facilitating widespread access to education and employment prospects, so helping in the closing of inequalities between various social and economic groups. It promotes teamwork and communication, strengthening harmony and understanding amongst various populations. But issues like the digital divide, which limits access to technology and the internet for low-income and rural populations, worsen existing inequalities. Fast technological development can have a disproportionately negative impact on poorer regions by causing job losses and environmental damage.  Addressing these challenges is essential to ensure technology benefits everyone equally.

My Reflection on Debate 4 :- The use of cell phones should be prohibited in the classroom???

https://images.app.goo.gl/iREgpdzHTnKAptbRA

Restricting cell phones in schools is an excellent decision since it helps students concentrate on their studies. With their phones in hand, students become easily absorbed by social networking sites, video games, or texting from classmates. It is difficult for them to focus on the teacher and learn new material as a result. When they put down their phones, students are more likely to pay attention in class and participate in activities. Due to this, students get higher grades and learn more about the subject matter by doing this. On the other hand, children who aren’t engaged on their phones might engage in more conversations and peer interaction. In the classroom, there are consequently more opportunities for engagement and mutual learning. However, it makes it easier for teachers to manage their classrooms more effectively, which raises the process’s effectiveness. When everything is taken into account, a cell phone ban in the classroom can help every student learn more intently and efficiently.

https://images.app.goo.gl/KDYANcknFAnRAEhq8

A cell phone ban in schools can significantly contribute to a less stressful and polite atmosphere. When there are no phone interruptions during class, students are more likely to pay attention, which boosts engagement and participation. Cell phone bans encourage academic integrity and dependability by discouraging students from cheating on quizzes or assignments. Moreover, in order to improve their communication skills and establish greater connections, children are urged to engage with their professors and peers more. In order to succeed both personally and professionally, social skills and emotional intelligence must be developed through this in-person connection. It is easier to learn in an environment free of phones since social media and messages produce fewer distractions. Overall, not having cell phones in the classroom can make it a better place for everyone to learn and grow.

Against my Favor:- Cell phones can be useful teaching tools, but they shouldn’t be prohibited in classrooms. Students may easily seek information, access instructional apps, and take part in interactive activities using their phones. For example, by using schedules and reminders for assignments and exams, phones can assist students in maintaining their organization. Having a phone in an emergency enables students to get in touch with their parents or guardians right away. Furthermore, being able to use technology properly will be crucial in the future. Teachers can ensure that phones are used responsibly and do not disturb the classroom by setting proper guidelines. Teachers can engage students more successfully and make learning more applicable to their daily lives by integrating phones into their classes.

In summary, banning cell phones in schools helps students concentrate on their studies by reducing distractions from social media, games, and texting. Without phones, students are more attentive and engaged in class, leading to better grades and learning. It also promotes more peer interaction and makes classroom management easier for teachers. Proper guidelines can ensure phones are used responsibly, integrating technology into learning effectively.

My reflection on debate3:- (AI technologies will revolutionize education for the better)

Artificial intelligence (AI) can significantly change education. Owing to its many advantages, teachers will be able to boost student accomplishment levels while also feeling more at ease and effective in the classroom. The ability of AI to customize teaching is one of its biggest benefits for learning. AI systems can analyze how students use learning resources to determine their preferred methods of learning and areas of strength and weakness. AI can, for instance, assess a student’s performance on quizzes, homework assignments, and classroom tasks to determine  data to develop personalized lesson plans that highlight the abilities and requirements of each student. In this manner, rather than using a fixed curriculum that is designed for everyone, each student receives a customized education that suits their unique learning style.

In today’s classrooms, learning is more fun and interesting for kids because of new AI technologies. AI-powered educational games are made to be entertaining and exciting. These activities utilize adaptive learning techniques to modify the subject matter and level of complexity according to each student’s unique comprehension and learning style. With this customized method, students are challenged and pushed without lacking confidence. Such games frequently encourage strategic planning, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

Artificial Intelligence in Education also saves time. For educators and administrators in schools, numerous demanding and repetitious jobs take up a lot of time, like lesson planning, attendance tracking, and grading. By using AI to handle these repetitive tasks, educators may concentrate more on fundamental duties, such as developing long-lasting connections with students and creating interesting lesson plans. This creates a more effective and efficient learning environment by reducing administrative workload and optimizing the learning process.

On Negative side:- Though there are several potential advantages to AI technology for education, there are also some drawbacks to take into account. Firstly, the use of AI may result in a lack of human relationships, which is important for students’ social and emotional intelligence development. Students may have less opportunity to interact meaningfully in person with their peers and instructors if they rely too much on AI. The reliance on AI could weaken this bond, as students might view AI as a tool rather than a mentor, potentially reducing their engagement and enthusiasm for learning.

Secondly, the disparity between wealthy and less privileged locations may widen since not all schools and pupils have equal access to the latest technologies. Students may have access to cutting-edge resources and techniques that improve their educational experience in rich locations. In contrast, learners in impoverished communities may struggle with outdated machinery or lack of the opportunity to use it completely. Disparities in educational opportunities and quality may result from this variation. Because of this, it could be more difficult for students from poorer homes to stay up with their classmates in wealthy areas. Thirdly, AI technology implementation and maintenance can be quite expensive, which may take funds away from other important tasks like recruiting skilled teachers, making infrastructural improvements, and providing required educational resources. This financial load can create a burden on educational institutions and cause an imbalance in the distribution of resources.

In brief, AI in education offers significant benefits by customizing teaching to each student’s learning style, enhancing engagement through AI-powered educational games, and saving time for educators by automating repetitive tasks. However, drawbacks include potential reductions in human interaction, exacerbation of educational inequalities between wealthy and less privileged areas, and high implementation and maintenance costs. Balancing these advantages and challenges is crucial for effectively integrating AI into educational systems.

Reflection on Debate 2:- Social Media is Ruining Childhood

I believe that children are being ruined by social media. Children today spend a lot of time on social media sites like TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat, where they frequently view videos and pictures of several people. This can make them feel inadequate or insecure about their life. Watching reels of celebrities on different social apps and their luxurious lifestyle hurts the young generation. Instead of playing outside or having physical conversations, many kids are glued to their screens, missing out on important social skills and physical activity. Social media is hurting childhood because it exposes kids to a world that doesn’t seem always true or healthy for them

.                                               https://images.app.goo.gl/rgRJa4tt6CuGBu87A

Another significant issue is Cyberbullying, which can make it easier for abusers to target their victims online with no instant implications, which can result in severe problems including depression, anxiety, and even suicide intentions. Bullies target their victims through social media, messages, or emails and this problem increasing day-by-day worldwide. No doubt, social media connects people, but it can also lead to feelings of loneliness and isolation and raise distance between the family members. Moreover, excessive use of social media, especially before bed, can disrupt sleep patterns. Poor sleep is directly caused depression which make the people more lazy in the workplace. I share a YouTube video of a school girl who bullied by her friends. It really makes me to think about this diverse issue.

Against my favor:-

Like me, many people worry that social media is ruining childhood, but that’s not entirely true. Social media, when used wisely, can be a positive part of growing up. It enables children to maintain relationships with friends and relatives, particularly those who stay far away. It helps in their relationship-building and maintenance, which is a vital part of social development. Children can also use social media as an outlet for innovative thinking. They can showcase their ideas, music, and artwork to more people and gain supportive comments that help them feel more confident. Social media may also be a very useful teaching tool. Various web pages and communities have been allocated to teaching people new skills, such as how to cook, initiative, or play something musical.

Children can also learn important technological abilities from social media, which are vital in today’s environment. They not only learn the principles of internet safety and privacy, but they also learn how to properly communicate and navigate online spaces. When students get bigger and go into the workforce, they will require these talents. Children are also exposed to a variety of cultures and viewpoints through social media, which broadens their worldview and develops empathy. It’s critical that parents and educators support kids in using social media in an appropriate manner. Set some boundaries for kids include limiting smartphone usage, promoting a balance between online and offline activities, and educating children about the excessive use of social media. We can make sure children spend limited time on social media with the proper use

In brief, children today have both opportunities and challenges when it comes to social media. Although it might lead to feelings of inadequacy and expose them to cyberbullying, it also encourages creativity and social interaction. Social media can improve learning, and cultural awareness, and prepare for future technological abilities when used responsibly and under parental supervision.

Reflection on Debate 1:- How Technology Improves Learning in the Classroom

                                                                          https://images.app.goo.gl/Lx29r2Ci4ZHQEXtx5

On the Positive Side:-

Technology in the classroom can make learning more exciting and foster more enthusiasm. In the traditional teaching method where students just read from a textbook and sometimes students get bored from this method. But now there are a variety of online teaching tools such as Kahoot, Canva, Google Classroom, Canvas, and so on. I got to know about these apps in my previous semester in the class Online and Blended Learning from Professor Katia. In the previous class, Katia told me how to use these apps in the teaching-learning process. Teachers may show colorful diagrams, engage in classroom activities, and even establish connections with classes worldwide with interactive whiteboards, thus transforming learning into a global endeavor. Students have access to an abundance of material and educational applications on their tablets and computers, which personalize and enhance the learning process.

However, technology also makes it easier for teachers to comprehend the demands of their students. Through online assessments and projects that offer immediate feedback, students can monitor their development. This makes it possible for educators to quickly figure out who requires additional support and who is prepared for more difficult content. It also permits more innovative approaches to instruction. Students can engage in computer labs, produce digital art, or even write their algorithms instead of simply listening to lectures, which makes learning more interactive and interesting.

In the video, Leanna Landry, a 5th-grade teacher, discusses her experiences and explains how technology enhances learning. Her students also share their perspectives on how technology impacts their classroom experience. Moreover, technology prepares students for the future. Students acquire essential abilities such as typing, executing internet research, and using various software programs through the use of technology in the classroom. These skills will be useful in their professional and academic lives. Additionally, it promotes collaboration. In a more flexible learning environment, students can collaborate on multimedia assignments, share thoughts in online discussions, and learn from one another.

On the Negative Side:

On doubt, there are number of benefits exists of the use of technology in the classroom. But it also have certain limitations/drawbacks that sometime make the student’s life more complex. Here is some key drawbacks:-                                 https://images.app.goo.gl/3qqmFnpM3JGm1SYf6

Distraction: One of the primary issues with technology is that it can cause disruptions in the classroom. Instead of paying attention in class, students use their smartphones and tablets to access the internet, play games, and explore social media. It could be more challenging for teachers to keep students attention in class.

Technical Problems: Technology sometimes defects. Reliability of internet connections, failing equipment, and software are feasible. These technical issues can disrupt learning and make it more difficult for educators to deliver their subject matter effectively.

Cost: It can be expensive to use and maintain technology in the classroom. Schools need to invest in technology, software, and infrastructure. They might also have to pay for training and technical assistance. These expenses can add up, particularly for schools with tight resources.

Over dependence on Technology: Both educators and learners suffer the risk of growing overly reliant on technology. The critical thinking and problem-solving skills that come from traditional teaching methodologies may not be acquired by students who just use technology for learning. It’s imperative for finding an adequate balance between using technology and traditional methods of teaching.

In brief, technology in the classroom enhances learning by making it more interactive and engaging through various online tools, allowing for dynamic lessons and global connections. It helps teachers understand student needs through online assessments and fosters essential skills for the future. However, technology can also cause distractions, suffer from technical issues, be costly, and potentially lead to over-dependence, highlighting the need for a balanced approach with traditional teaching methods.

My First Blog in EC&I:830 (Use of technology in daily life)

My “day in the life” consists of chatting on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Snapchat with people, answering questions, and providing information. Here is a breakdown of how I use technology, education, and learning in my daily routine.

https://images.app.goo.gl/8RMbW3V7ZETcA3Ju5

Like others, I use various technology tools such as computers, tablets, mobile phones, and other gadgets. For example, use laptops to watch movies, make assignments, and other fun activities. The laptop also helps me to organize and store important documents, and communicate with parents. Sometimes, I use educational apps and games to engage the children in learning as I am working in a daycare. In the workplace, I take pictures of kids’ activities when they are going to a waterpark or any other place and share the pictures with their parents. By sharing these photos with parents, we provide them a glimpse into our everyday activities and help them stay involved in their child’s educational path.

How I Connect with Others:

  1. Email: Through email, I share important updates about schedules, events, and activities at the daycare. It’s also a primary method for addressing any concerns or questions that parents have regarding their children’s progress or wellbeing.
  1. Messaging Apps: My parents, friends, and other family members can be connected quickly and effectively with the help of messaging apps. Instant updates, question-asking, and ongoing interaction are all made possible by these apps.
  2. Video Calls: For me, as an international student living far away from home, video chats are essential to maintaining connections with my family. Real-time communication with my loved ones allows me to stay emotionally connected and overcome distance.

Technology helps me stay organized, makes learning fun for the kids, and keeps me connected with my parents, friends and my loved ones.
