My First TikTok!
In my last post, I mentioned how the app I use the most on a daily basis is TikTok (cue internet slang that only the most chronically online will understand… totally not embarrassing). While TikTok is full of the latest trending sounds, memes, and endless entertainment, there is something to say about the learning aspect of this app. So, rather than doomscrolling on TikTok, I decided to use it as a tool for this week’s learning project post!
Technical Difficulties

I initially tried to edit the video I recorded for my learning project post on TikTok, but it didn’t work out… After an hour of editing on the app, I saved my video as a draft, which I was unable to open again- awesome! I did some research and found out that TikTok takes up a lot of storage space on your phone! So, I found an article that explains how to reduce the size of the app by clearing your TikTok cache, watch history, and deleting drafts. Aaaaand it still didn’t work for me. This is one downside I encountered while using TikTok as a learning tool. Basically, if your phone is running low on storage like mine, you might run into issues uploading and saving videos.
CapCut to the Rescue
After all that, I gave up and gave CapCut a try. Capcut is a video editing app that is owned by the same company as TikTok; I found the features very similar. Here, I was able to upload and finish editing my crocheting video. Then, I exported the finished video onto my TikTok account. If you don’t feel like getting TikTok, no worries. I also uploaded it to YouTube for you!
Learning Project Progress
In the last few weeks, I feel I have been making good progress! So far, I have learned how to crochet:
- a square
- a single-chain
- a single-stitch crochet
- a half-double crochet
- a double crochet
- a triple crochet
Aside from the stitches, I have been learning how to properly hold a crochet hook and master the proper tension to avoid stitches that are too tight or too loose. It’s still a work in progress! Next week, I hope to crochet something a little larger than the squares I have been practicing. My goal is to improve my stitching, specifically the double crochet, which I will need to start the Shrek-inspired bucket hat I hope to complete by the end of this project. See you next week!

Using Tik Tok to document your progress is such a great idea! I don’t have a lot of experience editing videos on Tik Tok, but it is cool how you were able to use a different editing app to edit your video before posting!

I had the same problem with editing apps to save my work for later. That is a real nuisance. Watching your work, I can see your mastery as if you have been doing this for a long time. Awesome!

I’ve never had an issue with storage on my phone with TikTok before! The size reducing thing looks really helpful so hopefully one day you can figure it out. Thank goodness you got CapCut to rescue you! It looks like you’ve made some really good progress. Keep up the good work!

I loved watching your video!! I felt like I was learning with you! I think TikTok can be great for learning information too! However, I never thought to learn from that source for the learning project! I think I will give it a try! 🙂

Hey! I love your TikTok video and how you were able to show off your progress this way. There is nothing worse than spending an hour editing something only to be unable to access it later. I am glad that you had better success with CapCut though!
