Culturally relevant pedagogy will look like diversity in my future classroom. Posters of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Malala Yousafzai, and Rosa Park, joined with multitudes of other strong and courageous individuals will adorn my classroom. Materials that includes protagonists of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities will be abundant, as well as poems and short stories that celebrate Indigenous voices and share the experiences of those from minority groups. Experiences of new immigrants and refugees will be used in the classroom as well, including sharing videos and writings to illustrate how difficult it is to learn English as a second or foreign language in a different country. In terms how it will sound, there will be large discussions around class materials. Students will be given the opportunity to discuss their opinions and beliefs, as well as their thoughts and experiences in the class and in personal reflection writings. Students will create artwork that reflects their opinions of the materials at hand as well as create poems and short stories that reflect important topics such as Residential schools and their personal and collective journeys towards Truth and Reconciliation.

In terms of myself as an educator, I will be taking several steps to ensure that I contribute to the sense of place for my future students. For one, I will remain up to date on the latest world events so I am aware of anything that may impact my students and their lives. Additionally, I will ensure that my students are encouraged to speak on matters they feel are important. For example, students will be able to submit creative essays regarding issues represented by themes in our classroom materials. students will be given a voice, and will do presentations accompanied by speeches on topics not pertaining to class material directly, but speaking from their hearts instead. This will once again encourage students to feel rooted in their beliefs and feel supported by their peers and teachers.
