Hi! My name is Tia Fellner, and I am a first-year education student at the University of Regina. Ever since I was in grade 2, I’ve known that I’ve wanted to become a teacher. I used to play teacher in my grandma’s basement, dressing up in her old clothes and wearing her old high heels.
When I was 15, I became a camp counselor at Fun in the Sun. I had the privilege to work with kids that had special needs. I learned so much from that experience and I will forever be grateful. A year later I was employed at the Weyburn Credit Union Spark Centre, where I was a program leader. My job was to make day plans for camps. We had camps that ranged from an 8 week summer camp, as well as week long break camps over the winter and spring. I gained valuable knowledge from my 3 years working there. I interacted with kids ages 6-11, I got the experience of planning, many of my teaching beliefs were created, and I made so many memorable connections with the campers!
I would say that I am a goal driven person. When I set my mind to something, I will do anything to achieve it. At the University of Regina, I hope to reach my goal of becoming a successful elementary school teacher, who knows how to honor and support her students. I had many great role models throughout my school years, and I hope that one day I can be a role model for my future students.
