- The first place I thought of when I started my 4 photo journey was my elementary school. I felt included and welcomed everyday, at all times. I get a warm and fuzzy feeling every time I think of Haig School. Teachers practiced diversity and worked hard to include everyone, and embrace differences. I grew as a person at Haig School, and developed many beliefs that I still carry with me. I struggled, but I also had fun, and it helped me to grow as a person. I hope that as a future teacher, I can support and welcome kids like my teachers did.
- The second place that came to my mind were these clouds that I took a picture of, outside my old high school. It’s very easy to get caught up in all the negativity that the world holds, and many times we lose sight of the good things in our life. When I walked outside and saw those clouds, I felt at peace. I was having a rough day, and I was thinking “life really sucks.” Then I saw those clouds, and it reminded me that the world is bigger than grades and drama, and that I have so much life ahead of me, so why not make it amazing.
- My third picture was taken at the cemetery in my hometown, Weyburn. As I was leaving the cemetery, I drove past a duck. Now, in Weyburn Saskatchewan that is rare to see. However, as I sat there looking at the duck, I began to feel hopeful. There are so many beautiful things in life. Each human is uniquely different, and has their own gifts that make them special. It is so important to embrace each person, embrace each gift, so that the world can be a better place.
- The last place I chose was my grandma’s house. Every time I’m there, I feel happy; it’s such a simple yet monumental feeling. I am happy that I am lucky enough to have a loving, supporting family. I am happy that I have the privilege to go to school a with a welcoming and inclusive environment. I am happy that I have the opportunity to express my thoughts and emotions. I am happy to be living.
