That’s a Wrap on Gluten-Free Recipies

June 19, 2022 5 By Tadyn Martinook

This semester has flown by so fast, and unfortunately, as this course comes to an end that means so does my learning project. I enjoyed learning how to cook and bake different gluten-free recipes so much. This experience has improved my skills for the better, as I have found a way to improve my cooking knowledge all while making healthier choices that will benefit my body. I learned so much about how to use different online resources to expand my knowledge, and document my learning. I was also enabled to learn how different resources can be used in my future as a teacher to not only teach my students but that they would be able to use also well. So with this blog post, I would like to take this time to reflect on my progress as a lifelong learner, as this has been a valuable and fun journey!

Week One: Subtracting the Gluten-Let’s Get Cooking!

In the first week of my learning project, I outlined where my inspiration had come from, as well as the limited cooking/baking experience that I had. I also discussed some ideas of resources that I planned to test out and some recipes that I planned to attempt.

Week Two: Scrumptious Gluten-Free Mixed Berry Muffins

This week I actually made my first recipe which was a version of gluten-free blueberry muffins, that I made with mixed berries, which I discovered on Youtube. I explored and edited my first video using iMovie, and learnt how to post the video to my Youtube channel. My blog also discusses my experience learning how to bake these muffins from watching a video, as well as things I had to adjust with the recipe, and what I wanted to improve on.

Week Three: Just like Great-Grandmas Pierogies…Kinda

In this blog post, I began by reminiscing on some memories and discussing my inspiration behind trying to make gluten-free perogies. This week I explore a blog that provided so many gluten-free recipes as my online learning resource. I discussed how it was nice to have both a video and easy instructions laid out for visual learners and learners who just like to read. Again, for editing and posting my process I used iMovie and Youtube. Then I outlined how the recipe turned out for me and where I would like to improve.

Week Four: Earthy Gluten-Free Beet Brownies

My blog post this week was all about this amazing beet brownie recipe that I found via a healthy cooking website. I discussed what I liked about using this resource and the interesting things I noticed. This week I also explored TikTok to create and edit a video of my progress. This blog post is where I outlined my experience using TikTok, and how it can be used as an educational resource for teachers. Then again, I discussed how the recipe went for me and my success.

Week Five: Let’s Make Pasta

Here I explored different online resources the find a pasta recipe. Pinterest is where I discovered a recipe that looked so delicious I just had to click on the link that led me to another cooking website. In this post, I discuss why I enjoy sites such as Pinterest and what I liked about this recipe. I even created a screen recording of the website that I posted to youtube of one of the cool features of the website. Once again I used Tiktok to create and edit my video and then outlined my cooking progress and what I might try differently.

Week Six: Giggly Cooking: Cowboy Caviar & Springrolls with Peanut Sauce

By week six my confidence in my progress is definitely something that you can see as I attempted two recipes plus a sauce recipe. Rather than using TikTok to create my videos this week, I used it to find the recipes I was making. My blog outlines how much I enjoyed the app to do this as well. Here I note how I ended up with a cooking partner who made my videos quite long, so I went back to using iMovie and Youtube to create and edit my videos as I became quite confident in using them. Once again I outlined each recipe, how the cooking process went, and how I might adjust the recipes.

After exploring all these different resources and reading my fellow classmates’ learning projects a have developed a huge list of different resources that I can use in my future as an educator. One thing that I also picked up on is that different resources and ways of learning are going to work differently for everyone, and that is something we all need to keep in mind for our future students. I myself love being able to see visuals and have videos to go along with the recipe to compare my cooking, but I know that some of my fellow classmates do not like learning from videos at all. Another thing I enjoyed from this project was being able to interact with my fellow classmates. I loved reading and commenting on each other’s posts, as well as reading and answering comments others left on my blog. This not only expanded mine and others’ learnings but we were able to create relationships with each other and help each other out. For example, my one video had an issue and if it weren’t for the comments I do not think I would have noticed this.

I really appreciated having the chance to take my learning in a direction that I was able to choose, and plan to continue my learning even though this course is over!
