Critical Teaching Manifesto

I am Trey Lefebvre, I am 28 year old white male settler, living on Treaty 4 territory

Purpose of teaching and learning:

I believe education is for all students, and that it is my responsibility to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all.

I believe the purpose of teaching and learning is to provide children with tools and skills to be a successful member of society.

I commit to challenging myself in seeking to understand the importance of truth and reconciliation

I believe in the importance of play

I believe in the power of outdoor education

I commit to push myself outside of my comfort zone to continue to educate myself

To make connections and grow with one another

To learn from our past mistakes

To help each other

To assist students to think critically and go above and beyond

To be my true self inside and out of the classroom

“I want students to leave our year together feeling like they don’t have to accept the world the way it is, that they can play a part in building something different” (Kassouf, S. 2023)

“Being your true self as a teacher is exactly what your students need” (Goldberg, G. 2018)

I believe in the power of using differentiation to help adapt a students needs

I value the importance of culturally responsive teaching by acknowledging and including a students culture, language, and past experience to help them in the classroom

How will my pedagogies embrace difference?

My pedagogies will adapt based on students needs and differences by embracing, welcoming, and including all those who step into my classroom. Our world is more diverse then ever, we are taking steps to come from a side of understanding, it important that we educate not only ourselves but our students to become life long learners
