Teaching Philosophy

My philosophy on education is that every student has a right to be taught by a teacher who is invested in their success. While I may not be able to control factors outside of my classroom, I do have a level of control inside of it. My students should feel that no matter what their home situation is like, at school there is at least one adult in their lives who wants to see them reach their full potential. I believe the classroom should be a warm and caring community where everyone works towards supporting each others success.

Children should feel it is okay to make mistakes knowing they will have an opportunity to learn from, and fix those mistakes. Fostering a growth mindset and using restorative justice rather than conventional discipline is essential for my students to believe I wish to see them at their best. Students should feel safe to speak their mind and know that all identities will be respected in the classroom. As their teacher I will seek out their feedback in order to better understand what I can do to improve their learning experience. Teachers must be flexible and offer differentiation in their teaching in order to create a stimulating environment where are students are able to learn.

I believe every student is capable of success. In my classroom success will be measured beyond grades. Students should be allowed to grow physically, emotionally, mentally, and socially. What success looks like will differ for every student, however, regardless of what success may look like for an individual student, I will still have high expectations of them to ensure they are striving to meet their full potential. In my own life I will continue to seek out new knowledge and further my own understanding and growth in order to model this expectation to my students.
