Pedagogy | I believe… that we should not be making our students accustomed to our teaching strategies and methods but we should find out what strategies work best for them and change our own teaching. | In my classroom, I will… pay attention to each and every student’s learning styles and provide an opportunity for the specific learning style, maybe not within every lesson but within every unit. |
Assessment | I believe… students should receive assessments that suit their learning styles. We should be providing students as many opportunities for success as possible and if we simply only assess them through tests or quizzes we are not providing them those opportunities. | In my classroom, I will… not prioritize my needs and preferences with assessment but think about how students will be most successful. |
Social Justice | I believe… in equity over equality. Especially in the terms of resources provided. It is often that students do not have access to the internet, colouring supplies, or simply time at home to complete homework and we need to be providing these students the time and tools necessary for their own success. | In my classroom, I will… create an inclusive and safe space for all students no matter their personal attributes. |
Lifelong Learning | I believe… if we give students positive school experiences, everyone can be a lifelong learner. | In my classroom, I will… provide resources that cater towards students’ interests to support inquiry and lifelong learning. |
