Final Course Prototype

Finally, I’m here! What started as a daunting task has transformed into an incredible journey. I remember signing up for this course to learn how to create an engaging online training program, especially as the world leans more towards digital platforms. But when I first learned that I would be developing a course prototype, I found myself questioning my life choices (lol!). With dedication, support from Katia (my fantastic instructor), and engaging discussions with my course mates, I managed to develop my very first course prototype.

So, how did it all begin? I decided to create a prototype that mirrors the in-person classroom training I used to conduct. Drawing from my previous experiences, I structured my course to make it suitable for synchronous training. Though I had much to learn about creating interactive videos with H5P, which is amazing for boosting online engagement, I also crafted an animated video for my company culture training, along with quizzes and forums for lively discussions. After the first module review, I refined my prototype by adding a module introduction, properly embedding the video, and setting up an online discussion forum.

My course prototype comprises two modules. The first one dives into the company culture of my fictional organization, GlobalTek. It features a YouTube video where employees share their insights about what culture means to them in an organization. This lays the foundation for participants to appreciate the value of our culture and align their work with our organizational goals. There’s also an animated interactive video discussing GlobalTek’s mission, vision, and values. To wrap it up, there’s an engaging quiz with eight questions, providing instant feedback once completed, and two online discussion questions to encourage participants to share their thoughts in the forum.

Module two focuses on job description training for new employees. Given my background in customer service and sales, I tailored this module for those two roles, mentioning that department heads would cover the training for others. This module, too, contains interactive videos, quizzes, and discussion questions for both job roles.

In addition, I’ve included my course profile created at the beginning of the term, outlining details such as the target audience, participant demographics, course format, content, learning objectives, and assessment strategies, along with considerations for common concerns (e.g., low bandwidth and device access). I’ve also attached a 15-minute walkthrough video of my final course prototype showcasing all the modules and interactive elements I designed.

As excited as I am about this project, I’m very open to feedback! I recognize there’s always room for improvement, and I’m eager to continue my journey from a novice online & blended training designer to an expert. This endeavor has been both challenging and rewarding, thanks to the experiences shared by my course mates and the insights I’ve gained about structuring engaging content, integrating interactive elements, and ensuring accessibility. Moving forward, I’m looking to refine my approach, gather feedback, and experiment with new engagement strategies to enhance this learning experience. This project is just the beginning of my exciting transition in online & blended training design!
