Final Course Prototype
Finally, I’m here! What started as a daunting task has transformed into an incredible journey. I remember signing up for this course to learn how to create an engaging online training program, especially as the world leans more towards digital platforms. But when I first learned that I would be developing a course prototype, I found myself questioning my life choices (lol!). With dedication, support from Katia (my fantastic instructor), and engaging discussions with my course mates, I managed to develop my very first course prototype.
So, how did it all begin? I decided to create a prototype that mirrors the in-person classroom training I used to conduct. Drawing from my previous experiences, I structured my course to make it suitable for synchronous training. Though I had much to learn about creating interactive videos with H5P, which is amazing for boosting online engagement, I also crafted an animated video for my company culture training, along with quizzes and forums for lively discussions. After the first module review, I refined my prototype by adding a module introduction, properly embedding the video, and setting up an online discussion forum.
My course prototype comprises two modules. The first one dives into the company culture of my fictional organization, GlobalTek. It features a YouTube video where employees share their insights about what culture means to them in an organization. This lays the foundation for participants to appreciate the value of our culture and align their work with our organizational goals. There’s also an animated interactive video discussing GlobalTek’s mission, vision, and values. To wrap it up, there’s an engaging quiz with eight questions, providing instant feedback once completed, and two online discussion questions to encourage participants to share their thoughts in the forum.
Module two focuses on job description training for new employees. Given my background in customer service and sales, I tailored this module for those two roles, mentioning that department heads would cover the training for others. This module, too, contains interactive videos, quizzes, and discussion questions for both job roles.
In addition, I’ve included my course profile created at the beginning of the term, outlining details such as the target audience, participant demographics, course format, content, learning objectives, and assessment strategies, along with considerations for common concerns (e.g., low bandwidth and device access). I’ve also attached a 15-minute walkthrough video of my final course prototype showcasing all the modules and interactive elements I designed.
As excited as I am about this project, I’m very open to feedback! I recognize there’s always room for improvement, and I’m eager to continue my journey from a novice online & blended training designer to an expert. This endeavor has been both challenging and rewarding, thanks to the experiences shared by my course mates and the insights I’ve gained about structuring engaging content, integrating interactive elements, and ensuring accessibility. Moving forward, I’m looking to refine my approach, gather feedback, and experiment with new engagement strategies to enhance this learning experience. This project is just the beginning of my exciting transition in online & blended training design!
blended training design!
Congratulations on completing your course prototype!! I loved to see your walkthrough and was impressed by all the growth you have acheived!! You have blended your in-person training experience with H5P and animated videos to create an engaging and interactive learning environment. Your inclusion of discussions, quizzes, and other accessibility considerations are great. The detailed course profile was engaging and I wish you great success in the future!!
Wow – your final course prototype is so thoughtfully designed! I really appreciated how clearly you outlined each of the modules and how intentional your use of tools like Kahoot, Canva, and Mentimeter was for student engagement. Your focus on culturally responsive pedagogy really stood out to me — especially how you integrated student voice and real-life applications throughout the course. That kind of care and consideration makes such a difference.
Also, your visual layout and explanations were super clear and easy to follow – it’s obvious you put a lot of effort into both the content and the delivery. I’m curious, have you had a chance to test parts of this prototype with students yet? I’d love to hear how they respond!
Great work wrapping up EC&I 834 with such a strong and meaningful project. Wishing you all the best as you continue to build and refine it!
Congratulations on your course prototype. I really enjoyed reading about your journey from feeling unsure to building such a thoughtful and engaging training course. Your use of interactive tools like H5P, animated videos, and discussion forums really shows your creativity and dedication. The structure of your modules, especially how you tied them to real workplace training, makes the content feel meaningful and practical. You’ve come such a long way, and your growth truly shows. Keep going—you’re clearly on the path to becoming an amazing online training designer! 👏🚀 Great work and thanks for sharing your journey!
Wow. what a fantastic journey you’ve shared! 🎉 I could completely relate to your early “questioning my life choices” moment (lol been there), but it’s amazing to see how you embraced the challenge and created something so dynamic and learner-centered.
Your focus on recreating the feel of your in-person sessions in a synchronous format shows great pedagogical awareness, and your use of tools like H5P, animated video, and structured forums really brings the experience to life. I especially loved the inclusion of culture-building through the GlobalTek module—it’s such a vital piece that often gets overlooked in onboarding.
Also, kudos for considering accessibility and bandwidth early on. That kind of foresight really reflects a mature design perspective. Your commitment to feedback and growth is inspiring—and I have no doubt you’ll evolve into a powerhouse in online and blended learning design!
Looking forward to seeing where your work goes next! 🚀👏
I loved being able to see your final prototype! It is really nicely laid out and seems very well organized for those who would be joining you GlobalTek company. I too was very nervous when reading all about this course, but it seems like you really took on the challenge! Well done!
This is awesome Adedayo! The fact that on top of designing this course you also had to create a fictional company and all of it’s values and goals shows such amazing creativity! The course has a nice flow to it and a good variety of both formative and summative assessments. It’s sure to keep potential new employee’s engaged and intrigued. Well done!
Hi Adedayo, thanks for sharing your reflection—it’s super cool to see how you’re taking feedback and turning it into solid improvements. I also love how real you got about accessibility and equity. It’s so relatable—we often focus on the obvious stuff (like low bandwidth), but then a conversation or class discussion suddenly opens our eyes to areas we didn’t think about before. That chat you had with folks who are color blind? Such a good reminder of how many different experiences people bring into a course. Well-done!
