Spaces, Places and Boundaries

Excerpt from my “Focus Questions” assignment:

As a teacher, creating a safe, accepting, and diverse classroom environment is crucial for the students to feel like they belong and they can be themselves. Through colonization, the spaces within the places we exist were designed according to the ones in power. Consequently, classrooms are dominated by colonial ways of knowing and being which does not benefit all students. The idea of spaces, places, and boundaries within the education system is an important concept because as a future teacher, I will have a space to construct a classroom built on the foundation of trust, respect, and inclusivity.
