Hi Everyone!
I am currently working at a wonky spot in my education journey, I am sitting at a 2.5 year student, but finishing first year classes that I have not completed yet. Growing up I always wanted to work with kids, but not really knowing in what capacity. I really wanted to be a teacher then but I the thought of 4 more years of school and a big student loan steered me into a different direction. I ended up taking an Educational Transliterator certificate program as this would get me into the school system. I have taught playschool, ran a dayhome and worked as an educational assistant, which I am currently still doing.
Many of my days were spent transporting my three children across the province for extra curricular sports and dance. My eldest is now in university and my middle is graduating this year, this sounded like the perfect time for me to get back into this journey. My husband is a farmer so we work together on this venture, yes I can drive a combine-but that’s where my talents end. In my spare time I love to go to concerts (the most recent was to see P!nk, one that’s been on my list for a long time), shop and spend time with my family and friends.
The most rewarding part of my position as an educational assistant is watching children grow and conquer a goal no matter how big or small it may be, every step is a milestone and I love being along for the ride. Another huge milestone for me is when I finally get connected to a child that is tricky to build a relationship with, these are bonds that can be the game changer for this child as well as for myself. I have learned so much as an adult in the four walls of the school and I look forward to using all of this knowledge in my own classroom one day.
My favorite quote comes from Dr. Seuss, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s Not.”-The Lorax
