According to my understanding about relationship of social media in personal and professional life. Personally, I believe that social media platforms are just like a bridge that connects the whole world together. On learning purpose, it makes learning easy, interesting and innovative. People can learn anything and get information within seconds by using social media handles such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Telegram, Google, YouTube and many more.
Reflecting on my journey using social media, I found myself using social media for different purposes. I mostly used You Tube, Instagram , WhatsApp and Facebook . On social media, I opened my first account on Facebook in 2010, which was mostly used to chat with school friends. After reading the article Social Media’s Growing Impact on Our Lives. I found that the author has mixed thoughts about the effects of social media.
Personally, social media has had a positive impact on my education. Mostly when I started learning something new, I used You tube, for example, during the pandemic, I started learning cooking, I used You Tube and learned different Indian dishes. Even now I regularly use YouTube, Google social media applications to learn about new things and get information. I always use Google Maps and Transit applications to reach my destination.
Furthermore, I have used Indeed, Linked and other professional job searching sites to find a suitable job that matches my profession or education.
Social media does not only have positive effects but also negative ones. It reduce the face to face communication. Individuals always connect through WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram. Even, they spend a lot of time scrolling the reels, which impacts on their social interaction. In addition, I think hacking and misuse of others personal information are dangerous sides of internet. So I am always aware of such kinds of information’s or sites that have negative impacts on society and community.
Hello Babbandeep,
I also believe that social media platforms are just like a bridge that connects the whole world. I also regularly use YouTube, and Google social media applications to learn about new things and get information. I always use Google Maps and Transit applications for my work, even for entertainment purposes.
I agree with you that social media has open the world up for everyone to connect. I think there are many things that we can learn, and learn from each other about. I agree with the negative concepts you brought up in your post. I do wonder if face-to-face interaction is just being replaced with screen time (ie Facetime) and this is just the evolution of our world, much like the telephone evolved communication between people? However, you are 100% correct in the dangerous side of the internet. There are many people (who are much smarter than a lot of people) who use the internet for harmful purposes. It is something we need to keep in our minds when we (or our students) use the internet.
