The documentary “Everything is Remix” Kirby Ferguson mentioned remixing isn’t just about creating new compositions and innovation; it’s about changing and combining original ideas with new versions. In fact, remixing, copying, and transforming is a foundation of creativity. The Ferguson documentary brought me back to the 2000s when I listened Bollywood remix songs that was a very unique experience.

Remixing in education.

Remixing and copying is not accepted in education, but teachers have always used the principle of remixing whether teaching methods, curriculum design, classroom activities or assessment. Combining originality with new ideas has a positive impact on learning. It develops interest with critical thinking and perception. Remixing gives learners the opportunity to learn existing information in new ways. For example, if learners can study historical events through movies, web series, and podcasts, it not only demonstrates understanding and creativity but is also an active and effective way to transfer knowledge, values, and culture.

Copying is always bad.

Whereas a good teacher never copies all ideas. They use only important things that provide meaningful and sensible learning. In fact, sometimes copying and borrowing ideas shows positive results in curriculum designing and evaluation. Remixing allows the educators to modify the curriculum according to the needs and abilities of learners. Ensures that all students understand and engage with learning material.

Impact of AI on education.

  2. Hi Babbandeep,
I agree with you and the video that copying, transforming, and combining can boost overall creativity and learning. Like you mentioned with learning about historical events using movies and podcasts, I often adapt materials into modern concepts to meet my students’ needs. I think this blended approach fosters critical thinking and creativity. I also agree that AI offers valuable tools for educators, but I wonder if relying too heavily on AI-generated content might hinder students’ critical thinking. It’s a bit of a tightrope walk right now.
