Amazing Experience: Exploring TikTok for Learning and Creativity.

This week was quite interesting and challenging for me. I am not a social media person. So, it’s quite hard to explore and learn new social tools for me. But, luckily, during my course and learning journey, I got a chance to learn more about social media and its advantages. How social media makes learning easy and interesting. Honestly speaking, last week the professor introduced some new tools that I had no idea about. Throughout the week, I just thought about which, tool I wanted to use. Eventually, I chose TikTok for making my learning more creative and unique.

Small talk about TikTok.

Today, TikTok one of the famous and most used applications in the world. In September 2016, Douyin launched TikTok. In a short time, which became the most popular and used application among the young people. I remember during COVID-19 time a lot of people created short videos on TikTok. Unfortunately, in my Country, It was completely banned and I did not get a chance to experience TikTok.

My experience with TikTok.

As I said before, I never use TikTok. Even I didn’t have an account. But when I searched more on YouTube for learning how to create videos on TikTok, I felt it was much easier. Where I added anything to my video. The editing tools were easy to use as a first-time user, it was easy to use.

This week, I wanted to strengthen my cooking learning journey to learn those recipes that were cooked in a short time by using minimal ingredients. So, I prepare mixed vegetable curd/yogurt. Which is called “RAITA.” This is a very quick and easy recipe that we can prepare in almost 10 minutes without any use of oil and flame.  The most interesting part of this dish is that we can cook according to our own taste. In my country, as usual, people make it in different ways, which I hope to share in upcoming posts. To see the recipe, follow this TikTok link. RAITA has great benefits for our health. Because yogurt is the main component of this dish, which is loaded with probiotics, it is good for our guts and digestive system, and it is a rich source of vitamins & minerals.

Looking back on my learning, I was always using YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook videos. But this time I enjoyed exploring new platform and trying to create my own creation.

By the side of education.

After experiencing my own learning, I highly recommended to educators to include the TikTok platform in classroom learning. It makes learning more interesting and productive and also gives the opportunity to experiencing a new ways of learning.

Overall.

My experience was so, good and positive and I was happy to learn new things.

  1. Hi Babbandeep, I’m glad you found a new way to showcase your cooking journey. Your blog made me reflect on my complicated feelings about TikTok. I started using it during COVID (for fun with colleagues and my kids). While I was impressed by the creativity and community, I also felt/feel uneasy about ongoing concerns related to data privacy and government affiliations, etc.
That said, it’s great you approached TikTok with an open mind (even though you’ve never used it before). Your cooking video is a fun and meaningful way to connect learning with creativity. Good for you – pushing past your comfort zones!

I also used TikTok for editing this week! I found the platform easy to use. I experimented with the stop motion effect this week for my video. I do wonder if some of the controversies around TikTok might make it hard to utilize in the classroom. I also had it auto choose a song for my video that included “f***” in the lyrics. I can see that being problematic for a school platform. Where do you see utilizing it?

  3. Thank you for your post! I have never used Tik Tok and I found your review very interesting. A couple of our classmates have also used it saying how simple it is to learn. And what better subject matter than your cooking. What other foods would you eat with Raita?
