Turning Up the Heat: My Semester of Cooking Something New Each Week

Turning Up the Heat: My Semester of Cooking Something New Each Week

For this semester I have decided to learn more about cooking! I love to cook and do it all the time. I am always excited to try out new and delicious recipes, especially if they involve pasta!

This is a picture of an amazing pasta dish from my trip to Italy! I chose cooking as my complex skill to learn, since it is one of my biggest passions and it goes hand in hand with travel. I am inspired by places I have travelled to and like to recreate dishes I have eaten from around the world!

Where I’m at Now:

I am great at cooking flavorful chicken, steak, making great homemade pasta sauces, and scrumptious appetizers and dips. I love making everything I cook in a healthy, yet tasty way and the only sweets I make are chocolate-covered strawberries and health-ified apple crisp. This was one of my dishes I made on Christmas Eve last year which turned out spectacularly.

My Goals:

1. Try out one new recipe each week to increase my culinary repertoire. I am mainly going to be focusing on Italian cuisine for this semester, but I may add in a few recipes that are not Italian.

2. To make recipes that are health-focused and use whole, natural foods.

All Roads Lead to Italy? My Plan For This Semester:

My plan to take my cooking skills to the next level is to try out new recipes from many different online sources. I am planning on making new recipes I have not tried before involving ravioli, pizza, spaghetti, and caprese salad, among others. I am planning on using recipes from:

Snapchat influencers

the Hello Fresh app

recipe blogs

Pinterest

Masterclass

and more!

Happy Cooking!

  1. Hi Carly, I love this. This was something that I considered doing for my project, I just didn’t know if I would be able to break out of the box enough! I look forward to following along with your cooking journey. How do you think you will gauge improvement? Or will it just be a matter of a weekly taste test? Yum.

    1. Hi Shayna,

Thanks! What topic did you end up picking? I can’t wait to see what you have decided to learn more about! I am planning on gauging my improvement on how it tastes, but also on other kitchen skills I learn along the way. I just finished my first week now and learned more about knife skills and flavour profiles this week!
      Carly
