CK-12 Foundation is an Amazing Open Educational Resource!
When exploring major Open Educational Resource (OER) repositories, I chose to evaluate the CK-12 Foundation platform. My short experience with CK-12 has been overwhelmingly positive, especially when considering my use for it in high school science education! Check out their YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@CK12) – full of how-tos!
User-Friendly ✅
First of all, CK-12 is incredibly user-friendly and caters to students, teachers, and even the general public who wish to expand their knowledge. The platform is well-organized, categorizing content by grade level and subject. It would be easy to begin integrating this into my classes tomorrow by simply making students aware of the website and search bar!
Quality Resources ✅
The resources I have looked at so far on CK-12 are of high quality! They often include modules with comprehensive lessons, a hover-over feature for term definitions, and a review section. Additionally, many lessons are supplemented with videos and interactive activities that engage students and reinforce learning. CK-12 also offers a related content section for each topic, providing additional resources and videos that enhance the learning experience.
Innovative Feature – Flexi the AI chatbot ✅
One standout feature is Flexi, CK-12’s AI chatbot. Students can ask Flexi questions and receive answers instantly. At the end of each lesson, there is also a “Top 5” section that highlights the most common questions asked to Flexi for that topic. For my own practice, I will be reviewing these questions for topics that I teach in case my own students are struggling in the same areas! I can add to my lessons to make sure that I answer these common questions.
Integration into Digital Platforms ✅

Thank you for the insightful look into this OER! I didn’t even consider looking to YouTube to make it even more user friendly – so that was something for me to reflect on when evaluating OER’s on my own! It definitely helps rather than looking at pages and pages of resources and information. I haven’t looked at CK-12 myself but your review made me more interesting in doing so!
I hadn’t even heard of CK-12 before this and I am so pleasantly surprised by it’s usefulness! It has resources for all grades and subjects! 🙂
Everyone keeps talking about CK-12, but you’re the first one who looked/shared YouTube Tutorials on it. Definitely helps make it more accessible. I feel like the only one in class who didn’t look specifically at it; I’ll have to give it a look tonight. Thanks for sharing.
I hadn’t heard of CK-12 before, but I would highly recommend that everyone takes a peek at it!
