Summary of Learning
In this episode of the Beyond the Classroom Podcast, I explore how blended and online learning can be more than just a delivery method. They can be opportunities to build meaningful connection, increase accessibility, and support student agency. Drawing from class discussions, the presentation by Alan Levine, and my own research and experimentation, and strategies I’m excited to share strategies I have learned about that you can try in your own online class! Whether you’re fully online, fully in-person, or somewhere in between, this episode is about designing with people, not just platforms, in mind.
Hi Cristina!! What an elegant way of presenting a summary of learning!! Your voice modulation and content are just right!! Enjoyed the various ways in which you explained the content!!
Hi Aradhana! Thanks for your kind words – I really enjoy making this podcast episode 🙂
Thanks for sharing your summary, C! I really enjoyed the way you brought together your learning journey with such clarity and creativity. It’s always great to see how people grow in confidence and skill throughout EC&I 834—and your reflections show just how much you took away from this experience. I especially appreciated your thoughts on balancing tech with pedagogy and how intentional design can truly transform online learning.
One question I’m curious about: Which tool or strategy do you see yourself relying on most in your teaching practice moving forward?
Congrats on wrapping up such a meaningful project!
Thanks! This course has been such a fun learning journey, and I’ve gained a lot of tools and resources I am looking forward to using in the future. I think that the Padlet 3-2-1 is something that I will incorporate in all my classes whether students are absent or not!
I’m curious – was there a particular moment or insight during EC&I 834 that really shifted your thinking about online or blended learning? Let me know!
This is a great podcast episode, Christina! I liked the format of your reflection. In particular, I appreciated your emphasis on student engagement and connection in online and blended formats. I agree with your reflection on HyFlex is terms of its usability in the current structure of most SK high schools. I found this to be the most challenging concept in terms of its application to my current teaching world – your reflection on the benefits and challenges of the format was insightful!
The 3-2-1 on Padlet is such a neat idea and I’m going to try this with my students! Your suggestion of filming a “How To” is something that I am going to implement in my courses when I incorporate EdTech and H5P content!
Thanks for your feedback!
I wish HyFlex was doable, but, like I mentioned, I think there are numerous factors that make this impossible today.
I don’t have a Science 9 class right now so I haven’t tried out my course on any students yet BUT I did try the 3-2-1 Padlet idea with a group of Health Science 20 students. They worked very well. The students were very engaged and they went through many others’ posts because they were looking for a question they were able to answer!
What a powerful reminder that online and blended learning isn’t just about tools, it’s about *people*. This was a great summary.. I loved how you framed it as a chance to build connection and agency rather than just deliver content. Your integration of Alan Levine’s insights, class discussions, and your own experimentation really brought the message home. I can’t wait to try some of the strategies you shared. Thank you for leading with heart and humanity!
This was a nice way to sign off. Awesome sauce, Christina!
Thanks, Dwayne! 🙂
That was a thoughtful and valuable podcast.
Your message about moving beyond the classroom captures what I learned about EC&I 834: that online and blended learning is not just about tools and technology but about people. I appreciate how you centered on connection, accessibility, and the students in your reflection.
Thank you for sharing, Christina.
Thanks, Adedayo! 🙂
