I have always been the type to hyper focus on new skills or hobbies that come across my social media feeds, but have never been the type to follow through on them. My wife would be the first to tell you that there are baskets of art supplies all around the house, rooms of wood, drawers of different supplies or projects that got started and never finished. I have dabbled in beading, sewing, gardening, carpentry, speed cubing, painting, drawing, among other things. Thinking about this project made me excited to pick up another skill or hobby that I have been wanting to explore – but did not make my wife as excited because of the ones I began and never followed through on. Which led me to consider what project I could pick that would benefit our life rather than add another pile of unused material in our spare bedroom. I narrowed it down to 3 ideas – Sourdough, 75 day health challenge, and meal prepping, which as it may have been given away by the title of this post, I chose meal prepping.

I have always wanted to get into meal prepping because of my busy lifestyle, but ironically always used my ‘busy lifestyle’ as an excuse not to. I created the perception in my head that I needed to spend a whole day on meal prepping, and when the heck would I find time to do that?! Secondly, any time I have made attempts to meal prep lunches for my week, or whatever else it may be, I make awfully bland meals that 1) don’t taste very good and 2) don’t always fill me up. Although, on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook I always see people meal prepping these amazing dishes that not only look good but are advertised as healthy as well! Prior to this course and this project, I have always liked and saved videos of meals that I wanted to try and make, as well as following pages that promote and teach how to properly meal prep, but like many other things I have never followed through or looked back on those videos or pages. BUT! Let that not be me no more! Let me be the person meal prepping for my week and eating healthier, becoming healthier and saving money because of it!

I documented my first day of meal prepping lunch for the week without any guidance from Social Media and it wasn’t terrible but it definitely wasn’t good either. I went to Dollarama and bought containers that I thought would be good for meal prepping then went home to cook and didn’t use any of those containers. Next, I made salad because… that’s what healthy meal prepping people make right? Spring greens mix, carrots, cucumbers, quinoa, and half a salmon with some Italian dressing – it wasn’t bad, but I can tell you right now I’m not excited to eat it for the next 3 days.

I am excited to look back into the profiles I already follow and to find more that can inspire my meal prepping journey. I hope to learn about the health benefits and develop an appreciation for the meal prepping process.

  1. Thank you for sharing your journey—meal prepping is such a powerful way to care for both your body and your time. I love how you’ve reframed this project as not just a task but a pathway to healthier habits and mindfulness. Taking the time to prepare food for our bodies is such a cool idea!

I’ve been working on listening to my body more, too, and your experience inspires me to consider meal prepping as part of that practice. If you come across any resources that balance creativity and ease, I’d love to hear about them! Thank you for sharing your reflections—I’m excited to see how this process evolves for you.

    1. Thanks for checking it out! You should definitely check out my Week 2 post as I get more in depth about the actual process and recipes I made! So far, my body and mind have been thanking me for meal prepping!

  2. Hi Samantha – love this learning goal! Meal prepping is always something I tell myself I will do – setting me up for success (and less stress) during the week – yet always one of the first things to go when I get busy. I am excited to follow along with your highs and lows of making it work!
