My interest in cooking and baking started ever since I was young. My mother always included me and taught me how to make things. Whether it was preparing the vegetables for a salad, stirring the gravy, making cookies, or decorating a cake. I am very grateful for my mother teaching these skills and making me passionate about cooking and baking. In addition, throughout high school, I took commercial cooking classes which taught me more skills about cooking and baking. However, I haven’t learned new recipes or taught myself new skills these past couple of years. I often find myself making the same couple of baked goods or meals. I find that it is getting repetitive and old. For my learning project, I hope to learn new recipes, and more culinary skills, and bring back my happiness in cooking and baking. I also wish to try out different cultures’ foods as well.
Each week I plan to find a recipe that I have never tried before and try to learn new skills from each recipe. I plan to use various online resources to find different recipes and learn new skills. Various websites, Pinterest, TikTok, YouTube and more are just a few examples of the other online resources I plan to use. Currently, most of the recipes I make are from online websites I search, TikTok, and Pinterest. In addition, I may use the online resources not to only just find more recipes but also to learn new skills. For example, I could find a YouTube or TikTok video explaining the different ways to cut vegetables. Although I will be learning a new recipe each week, each recipe will have taught me a new skill about cooking and baking that I didn’t know before.
I plan to experiment with different flavours and cultures I am used to than before. Since I feel that my receipts have become repetitive and basic, this will help expand my palette and teach me about different foods and cultures that I didn’t know before. Since I live with my mom, I plan to also share the meals with her and get feedback as well. This way, we can both explore different tastes and cultures together. This will also help me in the future once I have a family of my own because I can be more creative with my cooking and baking. I also plan on either making videos or taking photos of me cooking and baking. This will also teach me different video platforms such as YouTube and video editors. I have some experience using video editors such as iMovie and posting them to YouTube. I am very excited about this learning project as it will teach me not only how to improve my cooking and baking skills, but also different online platforms as well that I can use in my future classroom.
For this week to show my level of cooking skills I made a meal that I have made a couple of times before. This includes cucumber salad, salmon, and air-fried potatoes harvested from my garden. I don’t have a recipe for the cucumber salad or the potatoes as I sort of just eyeball the ingredients and taste test. However, I did find a salmon recipe on Pinterest that I enjoyed! Below, I have attached the video of me making the meal. I recorded it all on my phone, I then edited each clip on my phone as well. I then added the audio over top by screen recording a YouTube video of the song I chose. Furthermore, I then uploaded it to YouTube as well.
Thank you! I hope you enjoy my first Learning Project post!
OOO! The salmon looks absolutely delicious, I really enjoyed your video!
I love how you are embracing the idea of learning how to make food from different cultures. This is such a good and effective way to expand your food palate, learn about different cultures and introduce your tastebuds to something new and delicious! I can’t wait to see the meals you create week to week!
Nice to see that you have already picked out so many resources already! You have a good plan ahead of yourself. Cooking was one of my options for my learning project, so I am excited to see so many individuals doing cooking assignments so I can perhaps learn some new recipes! Best of luck.
